J.J. Abrams Won't Direct Mission: Impossible IV

It seems that the director of Tom Cruise's next mission won't helm his next. According to MTV, J.J. Abrams won't likely be on board to direct Mission: Impossible IV.

"I'm producing with Tom," he said recently. "My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie."

Abrams directed the last film, Mission: Impossible III, but with Star Trek 2 in the works for Abrams to direct, along with a slew of other projects, the news doesn't come as too big a surprise.

Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are currently writing the screenplay and Abrams was also asked of the rumors that a younger actor might step into star, but Abrams wouldn't reveal too much.

"I don't want to give anything away yet, but I will say that it's a story that will feel consistent with the world that has been created," he explained. "It's not a reboot kind of thing."

I've liked all the MI films, but I have to say I found the plot of III to be the least compelling of the three films, though Abrams' visual style was great.

good call, and nice choice jimthar, unfortunately mctiernans legal issues, i think it might hold the studio from hiring him. of course polanski hasnt had trouble staying employed as a director so who knows...

    I'm down if this is a one-director-per-film franchise. :P
