Jean-Claude Van Damme Up for Bloodsport 2?

With Jean-Claude Van Damme enjoying somewhat of a career resurgance, there is apparently talks to sequelize his first big success. According to Total Film, Van Damme revealed that he is working on a sequel to his hit martial-arts film, Bloodsport.

"You know, like, we're gonna do Bloodsport 2," Van Damme said. "Which was my first movie. And I want to do it now in a very mature way, where the guy from Bloodsport is a complete bum, maybe abusing his son."

Despite his success with the film JCVD, the studio is leery of such a plotline that involves child abuse.

"They told me, 'No, no, no! You cannot make a movie in America where a father is abusing his son physically! It's wrong. And you cannot be a guy on drugs doing karate and shit like that.' I said, 'Why? Why? Tell me why.' It's against the rules of success. But I believe the other rules of success. To show something real."

While the film did spawn three other sequels, Van Damme was not involved in any of them. We'll surely keep you posted on any developments for this potential Bloodsport sequel.

Bloodsport was released February 26th, 1988 and stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Donald Gibb, Leah Ayres, Norman Burton, Forest Whitaker, Roy Chiao, Philip Chan, Pierre Rafini. The film is directed by Newt Arnold.

Damn, I feel sorry for JCVD's kid in real life. Sounds like he gets the sh*t kicked out of him.

How about, "Yeah abuse the son, take the drugs, do the Karate, play the underdog and show the real true grit - true grit - realism - THAT'S something American cinema lacks in truck loads. You want a great flick? DO IT like you want to do it. Be REAL. Makes the struggle and success of our hero all the more sweeter.

We will see if this is any good. I am a fan of his earlier movies, but as of late they have been pretty awful.

Yeah Diaigma it does sound a straight to DVD flick but I have seen several of those that were actually pretty good. And also wikipedia info on Frank Dux makes him sound like he fabricates a lot what he is known for.

Bloodsport was supposed to be this story about this real guy named Frank Dux. How it got these sequels, i'll never know. Unless he goes under another character, this Dux guy is going to be upset. Don't get me love i'm all for the Van Damme resurgence but not like this.
