Jason Momoa is Conan the Barbarian
The race was between Momoa and Kellen Lutz, but apparently Momoa was won over by director Marcus Nispel and he won over the studio by filming a few scenes wielding a giant sword.
The casting means the film is on track to start production on March 15, with filming to take place in Bulgaria.
Conan the Barbarian was released August 19th, 2011 and stars Jason Momoa, Stephen Lang, Rachel Nichols, Ron Perlman, Rose McGowan, Bob Sapp, Leo Howard, Steven O'Donnell. The film is directed by Marcus Nispel.

I think Jason Momoa is an excellent choice for the Conan remake/reboot. He had great fight scenes in Stargate Atlantis and his Hawaiian ancestry gives him a unique look that I think is perfect for the barbarian character.
Plus, he is not just an actor, but a great athlete and stands 6' 4" tall. Here is an excerpt from his bio on IMDb, "A natural athlete, Jason enjoys rock and ice climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, long board skateboarding and roller hockey. He also spends his free time on Buddhist studies."

Very few people have made a solid transition from TV to FILMS. This there's a reason why it's so difficult for actors to do this.
Generally Tv requires a simpler fomulaic method of acting on primetime tv that actors would NEVER be able to getaway with on major motion pictures!

I totally agree with everyone on the fact this role should have went the Dwayne Johnson, yeah Brad Pitt pull off Troy, point taken, but he could ACT. Ive never even heard of this duchbag, and yeah i know the Rock's disney image kinda sways things, But he is a much better cast than this guy, Jesus my little brother is bigger than this guy, and the Conan sword weights 35 pounds this guy looks like he would struggle to lift a M and M, and just so no one thinks about it, yeah i know, a new adaptation which means a new sword but come on, you would have to be an idiot or a p*ssy to be afraid of this guy, my girl can kick the sh*t out of this guy, im just saying, hollywood is really going to hell

I've read that this version of Conan will be more like the comics. As long as it's not a remake, and just a retelling, I'd give it a try. It might actually turn out good. This Momoa guy needs to bulk up a little more.

I like this new direction for Conan. I have no idea about this guy's acting skills, but the darker, less Arian Conan is exactly right. A shave, another hairpiece and some blue contacts... this guy could be perfect. Certainly better than a parade of German bodybuilders they were previously considering.
