James Gunn set to re-write and direct Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
Here is James Gunn's official statement on Guardians of the Galaxy.
"For a month or so there's been a lot of Internet speculation about my involvement with Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Until now I haven't said anything, because I'm trying to be less expulsive about this project than I am about the rest of my life. But last night I got the go-ahead from Kevin Feige to let you all know that, yes, indeed, I am rewriting and directing Guardians of the Galaxy. As a lifelong lover of Marvel comics, space epics, AND raccoons, this is the movie I've been waiting to make since I was nine years old. Kevin Feige, Joss Whedon, and all the folks at Marvel have been amazing collaborators so far, and we're committed to bringing you something majestic, beautiful, and unique. I am incredibly excited. I am also incredibly grateful to the fans and the press for all their words of encouragement and support regarding my involvement with this project since the news first leaked. Thanks - you have, honestly, touched and overwhelmed me. And that's it for now. Other than the occasional photos of my dog and cat here on Facebook, I'll talk to you again in August 2014 when Guardians of the Galaxy is released!
Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters August 1st, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace. The film is directed by James Gunn.

@themoviefanatic I see and understand why your worried, but he might surprise us.
I find with any director or writer, there is this black box; half of it is excellent idea's the other half is bad story lines.
We have to wait and see what happens
James is nervous as hell, but as a professional he can't show it for fear that his fans and everyone else might hand him the film back and shout at him for ruining it. All directors have the same fear and they ask themselves will the masses enjoy it.

Why is there a need for a rewrite?

@zender It says in the article above, that he's written 2004's Scooby-Doo movie, so that makes me a bit worried now for this Guardian of the Galaxy movie.

@bryanyentz He definatly has a unique style and I have been a fan since his Troma days but this is going to be huge and IMO Gunn is perfect for it. Cat wait to see more.

@bryanyentz yea thats true he does usually do hard R's huh? yea. like have you seen the unrated blue ray for scooby doo: monsters unleashed? thats some racy stuff.
but yea ive got faith in this cuz i dont think marvel would have gone ahead with this project if they didnt have a good idea about where they wanted to take it. plus having joss whedon as a creative godfather is pretty awesome.

Hahaha, I love this! I'm a fan of Gunn's and I'm looking forward to what he can do with this materail; might be a bit too constrained for his tastes (all of his previous efforts have been hard-R or unrated... But still... Really interesting news...
