James Caviezel is set to topline the epic sci-fi Outlander, according to Production Weekly.

Howard McCain is directing from his own screenplay, which he co-wrote with Dirk Blackman.

In the script a human-like alien crashes on Earth in 509 AD who inadvertently releasing a horrible monster that he must destroy with the help of a barbaric Viking tribe.

The alien creature in the film, called Moorwen, is being created by creature designer Patrick Tatopoulos, whose credits include such special f/x extravaganzas as I, Robot and Godzilla.

Filming is scheduled to begin for ten weeks October 16th taking in locations around Halifax and Nine Mile River.
