James Cameron's GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS, his next 3D project and his word on ALIEN!
No word yet what the FOX project will be but rumor has it that it will be a Sci-Fi or historical adventure flick. Cameron has rights to various properties including, Battle Angel Alita, the shogun warrior property Mazinger Z, and the underwater adventure comic, Fathom. He has William Wisher working on a screenplay for the past few years centering around bombing operations of the 8th Army Air Force during WWII. The Iron Giant screenplay writer, Tim Mcanlies and Blade 2 director, Guillermo Del Toro, may start work on The Coffin for Cameron to produce but things are in the very early stages on this project. Cameron is also working with Donnie Darko director , Richard Kelly, on a project called The Rift. The story follows a group of scientists who creat a dimensionl rift in the Antarctic.
You can rule The Rift out for being the next FOX project as that is for Kelly to write and direct. Definitely not the much rumored True Lies 2 because Cameron has no desire to do it. However, it could be one of the projects mentioned or could be an unknown project altogether.
Cameron also did an interview in Canada where he expressed interest in continuing the Alien franchise under his terms. He would jump onboard only if 20th Century Fox does not forge ahead with the Aliens vs Predator project. Cameron had this to say concerning the topic:
"I said, 'Look, that's Wolfman meets Frankenstein.' It's like when you're cleaning out the closet, and you find these poor old relic films down at the bottom and you put two of them together.
"So whenever you're ready to pronounce (the Alien franchise) dead, you go and make that film. I'm sure they're not going to like that comment, but that's the way I feel about it. Let's not pronounce it dead yet."
Stay tuned for more....
