Back in March 2010, director James Cameron wasn't sure if he would make Battle Angel or Avatar 2 as his follow-up to the record-breaking Avatar. He eventually went with Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, although the filmmaker revealed recently he plans to make Battle Angel after his Pandora-set sequels. Here's what he had to say, stressing that his sequels will do more good for a world audience.
James Cameron will make Battle Angel after the Avatar sequels
"I see the good the Avatar franchise can do in terms of keeping a world audience cognizant of our relationship with nature, but doing it in an entertainment context. Ultimately I think there's more good to be done there than with Battle Angel. Battle Angel is just a great, kick ass story."
Battle Angel is based on Yukito Kishiro's manga, and set in the 26th Century, a world where cyborgs have dominated the planet. The story centers on Alita, a young girl trapped in this robotic body who begins to have memories of her past. Although we will have to wait several years to see this imagined on the big screen, the filmmaker revealed there is no way he is letting go of this project.
"It would have to be pried out of my cold dead fingers. But on the other hand, I don't want to take it to my grave either. [We want to see it] at some point, yeah."
