James Bond returns November of 2012
The studio will retain fifty percent of the rights to the Bond franchise, with MGM set to release a new 007 adventure every other year starting with James Bond 23's release in 2012. An equal partner will pay all of the production costs on the first few movies released, and then the later Bond sequels will be wholly owned and funded by MGM itself.
There is no word on whether or not Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007 in James Bond 23. At this time, the actor is committed to filming all three installments of the Millennium Trilogy, starting with the currently in production The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
As indicated by the earlier report, MGM is currently set to spend as much as $125 million in the next fifteen weeks on operation costs alone. They have already ponied up $20 million for The Hobbit in a co-production deal with Time Warner Inc. and New Line Cinema. At this time, MGM is obligated to pay close to $275 million on the The Hobbit and The Hobbit Sequel, but is looking for a third party to fund those obligations.
Skyfall was released November 9th, 2012 and stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw. The film is directed by Sam Mendes.

Great News.

This is great news, I really hope they get away from the Bourne style and closer to the Bond style, the reboot was great but its time to deliver on some more familiar James Bond expectations

Can't wait. Loved the last two. And to @3080 , Quantum did not receive a "critical drubbing". It's certified fresh on RottenTomatoes.

@Narrator Yep. Casino Royale was a reboot. And I agree with you about the movie. I think it was the best adaptation of Ian Fleming's original creations. Was it the best movie? Well I have some favs in the original series, so it's hard for me to say on that.

@Tyrannus, I agree. Weisz being the head of Quantum would be unbelievable.

Casino Royale has hands down the best execution, writing, and pacing for any Bond film. Villains don't always make a film, and for a REBOOT (which is exactly what it was), Casino Royale delivered. It is supposed to be different from the past Bonds. It's a reboot!

I agree about Craig.
I'm also hoping the rumor about Rachel Weisz being the head of Quantum is true, that would be really interesting.

@Jimthar YES! I loved Roger Moore as Bond! He and Connery (unintentional rhyme) were the best bonds. I liked Connery's "cool" and I liked Moore's campy charisma.

Long awaited news! MGM will be getting back Bond after their drought. Hopefully Craig stays longer than just for the 3 film deal.

Okay, so it is chap. 11... but they still have to secure over 4 Billion in debt from third party lenders, mainly JPMorgan. That's a lot of money for anyone to come up with and then get a judge to approve after they already had a buyout in 2005 of over 2.5 Billion. It's an uphill battle, but you can bet money that this will easily be one of their go-to franchises to assit in recooping the money.

Clive Owen for Bond. Craig just has no personality! And how about Laura Neiva from À Deriva as a future Bond girl (although she's probably too young for the next one)

Casino Royale was not better than Goldfinger. Goldfinger set, and remains, the standard all other Bond films are judged by. I will say that in some areas that Casino Royale came close, such as the chemistry between Bond and Vesper, but it does not have the villain or the dialogue to match Goldfinger.

If you'll indulge me, Casino Royale was definitely Bond. It was, in my opinion, easily the best Bond movie ever. To @ejk1's point, however, THE ACTION - and only the action - felt like Bourne. Quantum was just a bad Bond movie with the same Bourne-like action.

well Sam Worthington was in competition for the role with craig in casino royale but crair got it. I thought Casino royale was the bond film we all needed but quantum of solace totally did have a bourne feel to it. if he f*cked more beezies and had the sick gadgets it would have felt more bondish but it was still entertaining none the less

All those elements are expected to return in Bond 23, after the critical drubbing Quantum of Solace received. It's another reason EON may find it easier to just recast all the roles at the same time ala Goldeneye.
The other thing no one seems to have noticed yet is that none of this is actually official. It's just what MGM says they hope will happen. But since Bond 23 doesn't have a release date reserved, a greenlight, distributor, director, or even a script, I'm not fully convinced Bond's producers will risk doing a rush job in order to make 2012. They tried that with Tomorrow Never Dies and Quantum of Solace and it backfired on them in both cases.

@ejk1 I have the same complaint, with it being more Bourne then Bond. Glad someone else sees it in that light as well.
