Jake Gyllenhaal Is Prince in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Jake Gyllenhaal will become royalty in his newest project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has signed on for the lead role in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It is also reported that Gemma Arterton has joined the cast as well.

The film revolves around Gyllenhaal's character Dartan, a prince in 6th century Persia who forms an alliance with the princess Tamina (Arterton) to stop a treacherous nobleman from obtaining the Sands of Time, which would allow anyone to rule the world.

Mike Newell is directing from the script by Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner, who created the Ubisoft video games, and Boaz Yakin. Production is slated to begin this July.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released May 28th, 2010 and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, Steve Toussaint, Toby Kebbell, Richard Coyle, Ronald Pickup. The film is directed by Mike Newell.

    This is gay. He only has one expression (his boring, unexcited, almost depressed face look) which will drive me nuts in this movie. I just don't know him acting Persian lol. He's well...white...and would sound nothing like he should...Jake's lips don't move when he talks so this will be weird. I'm not saying he sucks or whatever just that he doesn't seem fit for the role. But I guess kudos to him anyway.

    WTF OH MY GOD *dies* I love Jake.. and I love Prince of Persia. And to answer jmt the Prince has always had a westernized look (after all he's got blue eyes, in the first game ever he was even blonde). I find this casting strange BUT it all has to do with how they pull it off; at first I also thought Heath Ledger wasn't a good choice for Joker and just look at how that worked out... ;)

    F*CKING GAY!! He CAN'T play this part it's against nature, and by the way The Prince NEVER had a name in the games. In a way I could maybe see Johnny Depp playing the Prince and Hugh Jackman Play the Prince in the 2nd and 3rd if you just look at the cover art for the games.
