Jaden Smith Lands a Role in The Day the Earth Stood Still

The news leaked last week that Jaden Smith had joined the cast of Warner Brothers' upcoming remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the news.

Smith will be playing Jacob, the rebellious 8-year-old son of scientist Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly). She is the one that makes first contact with the alien Klaatu (Keanu Reeves).

Scott Derrickson is directing the film. It is currently filming in Vancouver for a December 12th, 2008 release date.

The Day the Earth Stood Still was released December 12th, 2008 and stars Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates, Jaden Smith, John Cleese, Jon Hamm, Kyle Chandler, Robert Knepper. The film is directed by Scott Derrickson.

    The guy can't even spell Hollywood, so why expect him to be cordial?

    Who really cares who's cast? It'll be a big summer blockbuster and a lot of people will see it, regardless if it's a dud or not. That's what matters to the studios, really.

    I just don't like the concept of remakes at all, no matter how good the movie is.

    ick, i dont think every movie needs a kid, in fact i shudder every time i find out a movie im looking forward to seeing has a kid in it, because that means a brunt of the marketing will be aimed at the kid demographic, and i am by no means interested in finding movies for kids when the movie wouldve been much better if made specifically for adults.

    nevertheless, the kid is an important role in the original movie, so we knew thered be one in this, and jaden smith is not the worst choice they couldve made.

    shut up celluloid. he's a pretty good kid and will smith is the third coolest dad in holliwood. like u can act better. i'm not to sure on cathy bates but in my opinion every movie needs a little charm called a kid.

    Well, the kid can't sell out, but it sure helps when your daddy is famous to "HELP" get your foot into all kinds of films! Saves time on a casting call!

    the kids was born with a whole rack of silver spoons imbedded in his intestines, i dont think he can sell out. having said that im sure the claim was made as a joke.
