Jackie Chan
The legendary actor is in talks to portray the martial arts mentor, much like Mr. Miyagi, which Pat Morita made famous in the original film and subsequent sequel. Jaden Smith has already signed on to portray the lead, who is picked on by bullies until he's taken under the wing of his mentor.
Harald Zwart (Agent Cody Banks) has also just signed on to direct the remake, which is being developed at Columbia Pictures, from a script by Chris Murphy. It is said that they aim to start production possibly this year in Beijing. Jaden Smith's father, Will Smith, is also producing the remake with his Overbrook Pictures partners James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz along with the original franchise producer, Jerry Weintraub.
The Karate Kid was released June 11th, 2010 and stars Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, Taraji P. Henson, Wenwen Han, Rongguang Yu, Zhensu Wu, Zhiheng Wang, Zhenwei Wang. The film is directed by Harald Zwart.

Ken Watanabe is sexy. I also love Jet Li. But I can't see either of them as Miyagi. I'd rather not see a remake of this at all. But if it's going to be more of a comedy, I would rather see Chan doing the role. Kind of like the part he played in The Forbidden Kingdom.

Neither of them should be in it. The film shouldn't even be made or exist lol.

I agree with Shelley on this one. Jackie Chan, meaning no offense, doesn't even come close to Pat Morita and Jet Li would do a much better job at it. But how about throwing Ken Watanabe in there, he would be perfect for this

Shelley, Jet Li is in my opinion, a stronger martial artist. He isn't the stunts-smith that Jackie Chan is, but isn't the actor Jackie Chan is either. I believe Jackie could do it from the comedic stand point of Mr. Miyagi. He better suits the blend, but this isn't the kind of movie for Jet Li. I don't really think this classic needs a remake.

Shelley
I personally think Jet Li would be better.

I'm sorry but I don't think Jackie Chan can come close to the original Mr. Miyagi. No offense to Jackie, but ya.

Some remakes have potential, usually effects laden movies. Remaking The Karate Kid is just a blatant cash grab. It will not have the charm nor heart of the original.
Unfortunately, nepotism has made stars of Jaden Smith, Kate Hudson and now Bruce Willis's daughter, Rummer, is trying to break in...

I agree that this isn't a good idea to remake this classic. If I had to say anything I'd agree with DarkTower, they should change the title to the movie to make it seem like it's not related to the others or something. Jackie you're a pretty good actor but I swear if you ruin Mr. Miyagi I will be soooo ticked!!!

It better not be called the Karate kid if it's set in China and has Jackie Chan. Karate is an Okinawan/Japanese martial art. It could be the Kung-Fu Kid. But let's face it: it will suck either way.

incredible hulk wasn't a remake of a remake, it was just a remake. and really it was more of just a second try, sames goes for the punisher i think.
anyway this is a terrible idea, no need to remake karate kid, maybe if it was just a sequal that would make sense.
