The Expendables 3 has been a sequel rife with disinformation, especially in regards to the cast. Fans are anxiously awaiting news on which legendary icon this third film in the franchise will dust off next. In early November, Sylvester Stallone confirmed that Nicolas Cage would be taking on a role, and that Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes were also being considered for the cast. Then, one day later, Sly revealed that an imposter had leaked that news and it wasn't true.
Jackie Chan confirmed for The Expendables 3
Now, we have word that Jackie Chan has been confirmed for a fairly substantial role in this franchise sequel, the actor himself announcing the news.
"Sly had invited me to be in The Expendables 2 but I was too busy filming Chinese Zodiac and couldn't make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes."
It's rumored that Jackie Chan has requested that this next film be a buddy-buddy movie, and that Sylvester Stallone has agreed to that request. This part sounds a little iffy, but apparently the screenplay is being rewritten to meet this specified criteria. The two previously appeared together in a spoof of buddy-buddy action movies alongside Whoopi Goldberg in the box office bomb An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn, which itself was directed by Alan Smithee.
Jackie Chan also revealed that his next film after The Expendables 3 will be another buddy comedy similar to Rush Hour, which will team him up with a counterpart from the West. Chris Tucker is interested in the script, tentatively titled Skip Tracers, but Chan isn't keen on teaming up with his pal for a new franchise, and he's not that interested in turning it into Rush Hour 4, either.
"The script is currently [being] viewed by Chris Tucker. Personally, I feel that if he were to pick it up, it would be better if we turned it into Rush Hour 4 but I do think that three movies for the franchise is a perfect ending. It would be better to start a new buddy movie with someone new."
The Expendables 3 comes to theaters August 15th, 2014 and stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, Harrison Ford. The film is directed by Patrick Hughes.
