According to The Digital Bits, the Saw II DVD has gone through an aspect ratio change in it’s move from the big to the small screen.

The film, which played in theaters at the 1.85:1 aspect ratio seems to have been converted to the 1.78:1 aspect ratio for it’s release on DVD. According to the site Lionsgate (who is releasing the DVD) gave no reason for this change.

As you may remember, Lionsgate is the same company who recently released the Lord of Ward DVD. That movie played in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio when it was released, yet when it came to DVD it was in 1.78:1. According to Lionsgate “the film’s production company” was responsible for the change.

Saw II comes out on DVD February 14th, 2006 through Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
