Isaiah Washington will go from the emergency room to the basketball court. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Washington has signed on to star alongside Forest Whitaker in The Patriots. This is his first project since departing from Grey's Anatomy.

Also joining the cast are Taraji P. Henson, Robbie Jones, Jackie Long, Eric Hill, Bow Wow, Lil' Wayne, Irma Hall, Jaren Einsohn, J.B. Smoove and Chyna Mcclain.

The film is based on a true story of a Louisiana high school basketball team that gathered players from five different schools in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and made it to the state championship.

Washington will play Assistant Coach Simmons of John Ehret High, who helps lead his squad.

Tim Story will direct from a script by Robert Eisele (The Great Debaters) and Greg Allen Howard (Remember the Titans).

Shooting begins this week in New Orleans and no release date has been set at this time.

Hurricane Season was released December 8th, 2009 and stars Forest Whitaker, Taraji P. Henson, Bonnie Hunt, Courtney B. Vance, Isaiah Washington, Lil' Wayne, Bow Wow, China Anne McClain. The film is directed by Tim Story.
