Here's a link to the article where the director of the short finally spoke out about the film. He said that the mysticism would definitely be included and that Scorpion would be a bad guy. He said that he had $7500 to work with and did what he could. Damn fine job for $7500.

I don't know what to say because this sh*t is just a vision. Can't remember what's-his-face, but he really has me pysched as a long-time fan of Mortal Kombat.
Warner Bros. is really on a f*cking roll with films lately. Batman, Watchmen, Hangover, Matrix... Mortal Kombat will totally destroy upcoming video game flicks.

I think they are going with a mechanical route of how he freezes things. I mean look at his mask...machinified LOL.

That was pretty bad-ass. I would be down for a movie.

it does look like they are going for a semi-realistic take, but, if you pause when they show Sub-Zero he is clearly VERY freaky looking. Just him being in it implies there must be some magic involved. to have that character and not make him capable of freezing stuff would be odd.

i enjoyed this but i must confess the realism behind it with modern science i dont really know about the Franchise is a fantasy based theme and now with visual technology being what it is i think they would have a hell of alot better chance getting the film done right than they did 13 years ago

I really like the craftiness of this a lot. Gritty...Raw edged...Hyper realism...Something to be appreciated when today's audience looks to relate to what they see. Not to say the average man is going to look at this and say, "Wow, I had an experience like this once!" lol! But they won't have to transport to another world to rationalize what they'd just seen. There's nothing like a creative talent to bring life to something otherwise unthinkable. The original Mortal Kombat movie was okay, hype when it first released; but just okay after multiple views. It stayed mostly true to the concept of the game. This take looks like the new approach still had respect for its source material, but it still retains its own style and look. Sense this was a sales pitch, I truly hope that Warner Bros. takes this and implements it into the scheme for their upcoming feature. If they really want to revamp the franchise, this would be the way to do it. Catch the eye and attention of the audience and avoid flashy gimmicks for the sake of identifying with the game. Christopher Nolan set a trend with, Batman Begins, in re-imagining classic...Telling a story that still held much respect for its original inception. Flashiness doesn't work in today's entertainment alone, the audience is far more sophisticated now. Sometimes less is more when the story is well crafted around the remaining pieces of the puzzle. I look forward to see what Warner Bros. does with this.

Cool, but Johnny Cage killed? That sucks.
Tony Jaa should be Liu Kang.
I hope Michael Jai White is in this also. That would be awesome. I knew that was Jri Ryan the minute I saw her. Minus the implant on the side of her head. Like drew says..hope she gets naked. It says they're shooting for a hard R rating, so let's keep our fingers crossed.
They really could tie that footage into the movie and it would fit perfectly. It's filmed really well.
05:58, Like the weapon that Pinhead uses in Hellraiser 8, when he stuck that guy in the neck, it opened up at the end and cut his head off when the chain was yanked back. The movie that stared Lance Henrickson.

I don't know where Sonja is coming from because I've always seen it spelled Sonya, but I believe the site is referring to Jax as Jacks because of how his name appears on the door in the trailer.

Talk about reimagining. It all made sense, and still had nods to the original versions of the characters, but was a completely new take. I loved it! I mean I love the original storyline as well only because it was different and added a sci-fi/fantasy take to the figthing genre, but this more real world take on the property is crazy. The best part is like the Tekken film they've gotten Martial Artists to play the parts. White as Jax, and Dale as Scorpion, Matt Mullins as Cage (though I'd loved to have seen Scott Adkins in the part) and Crowder as Baraka were perfect. Turning Sonja into an FBI agent and Jax into a cop was a bit upsetting because I don't think we'd get to see them fight (Could be wrong) but casting Jerri Ryan was perfect. WB better not drop the ball. Midway was looking for a way to reboot the series, as they feel they've gone as far as the story will allow, and this is a great way to go.
