Is Terminator: Genesis the Title of the Upcoming Reboot?
Aside from those pesky rumors that Terminator 5 will focus on a young Sarah Connor, with both Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson vying for the role in a story that will change the events seen in the original 1984 The Terminator, as the machine arrives in the past to hunt her down before she becomes pregnant, not much is known about this upcoming reboot from Annapurna Pictures and Paramount.
Today, the usually reliable Production Weekly sent out the following Tweet, which confirms that the production offices for the Alan Taylor directed reboot are up and running, and that they have what may be the official title: Terminator: Genesis.
None of this has been confirmed by the studio just yet. The director himself has yet to be officially confirmed by Paramount or Annapurna. It is known that this will kick off a new trilogy that will reinvent the original Quadrilogy. Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning as The Terminator, but its not known in what capacity, or how he will affect the storyline this time out.
What do you think of that new title? Genesis means 'origin' or the beginning. Are we getting a straight up origin story of some sort? Is that necessary at this point? Why are they taking us all the way back to square one? Is that what you, as a fan, want to see?
Terminator: Genesis comes to theaters July 1st, 2015 and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung-hun Lee, Michael Gladis. The film is directed by Alan Taylor.
