Is Spider-Man Considering Hilary Duff for Gwen Stacy?

Hilary Duff could be up for a Spider-Man reboot role
A new interview in The Globe and Mail revealed that Hilary Duff could be in the running for a role in Sony's upcoming Untitled Spider-Man Reboot.

The interview was with Hilary Duff's NHL hockey player husband Mike Comrie. The piece revealed that while the interviewer was at Hilary Duff's Hollywood home, they discovered a script entitled "Spiderman" on the coffee table.

Here's an excerpt from the article:

"The kitchen contains evidence of their professional lives - his daily diet is posted on the fridge (from a bacon cheddar burrito for breakfast to five pigs-in-a-blanket as a nighttime snack) and a script marked Spiderman sits on the table, with lines for a character simply called "girl" highlighted in yellow (rumours swirl about who Spidey's love interest will be in the series' next instalment.)"

The article doesn't indicate which character Hilary Duff would play. We reported last month that actresses Emma Roberts and Teresa Palmer were in the running to portray Gwen Stacy in the new reboot. Could Hilary Duff also be up for this role?

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further information regarding the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot as soon as we have more information.

The Amazing Spider-Man was released July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Campbell Scott. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

Thanks, Josh, for the information. Of course, this is even worse- He'll be thirty by the time a second one is ready. Will that movie move years into the future, and take Parker out of high school? Probably not, which is why the pick of Garfield is astonishing. Even though he could do very well, and I hope he does, the fact is that he's too old for this role. I just can't believe that out of all the ways the studio could have gone, they decided on a high school story with an actor that is nearing thirty. Instead of letting a teenager grow with the role like Daniel Radcliffe did with Harry Potter, we get to see an actor that's already too old for his role, which pretty much limits the number of sequels that can come of this rebooted series. That is frustrating, considering the treasure trove that the screenwriters can pull from. I hope Garfield does well, but his casting is still, to me at least, a puzzling one.

Not against this, but I think there are better choices out there. She does look the part and for being a lead female, I like her a whole hell of a lot better than KD.

Bryce Dallas Howard is indeed sweet, but in no way can she pull off a high school role. She'll be 30 in about six months.

I don't really see Fox hiring any of Disney's girls. That, and the fact that she's too young to be on screen with Garfield takes her out of the running, IMO. If Logan Lerman was Parker, you may have been on to something.

This is what annoys the hell out of me. Can we please get some people that actually look like they are in high school? I've said this before about Garfield, and I'll say it about Duff: her age should preclude her from the role. Unfortunately, since Garfield was cast and is 24, they need to bring someone in at a comparable age to play Gwen(it won't be a 17 year old now). Whether anyone likes it or not(and I don't), she's a prime candidate for the role.

This reboot is not necessary. just make a sequel with a new cast if you muct and please keep Hillary Duff away from any main roles. I can see this devolving into something like Spider Man Musical. i know, i know. I am being cynical. Crosses fingers.

could have been worst.. they could have gotten miley or Lohan lolz. wat they need is an actress who is willing to come back. not sum1 who will say "i am stepping down from my role" or watever. like megan fox kept bbitchin about transformers so she got replaced. hopfully the spiderman him self doesnt step down from his role either. the last guy did a great job making all 3 movies, but the director fukd up the story.

  28. the Narrator

Random side note: If they were to go the reboot route I want, with Parker being a teacher and all, I would definitely want Natalie Portman for Mary Jane. I mean look at her. Nearly the right age for the role, gorgeous, and not to mention a great actress. Than again, they will probably never go in that direction, which is a shame. But I can dream. :P

I would prefer Emma Roberts as Gwen. Still, this isn't a terrible choice. She is physically a match for Gwen, and believe it or not, she can act. After all, she has been in film school these past few years, so maybe she got better. Still, not my first choice. Cute thou. :P

@Insert, Mcginley would be a fine choice, and I am sure he'd do good, but I was looking for someone a little more grounded, to add a slight bit of star power to the series, as well as someone older. I was thinking John Glover. Then again, he's also a B lister.
