is Seth Gordon the director of Star Wars: Episode VII?
Since it was announced, Star Wars: Episode VII has become the biggest sequel in the galaxy, and the announcement of a director is imminent. The treatment from Michael Arndt has gone out to some of the biggest names in Hollywood, with Brad Bird, Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Jon Favreau, Zack Snyder, and Quentin Tarantino all passing on the project. Safety Not Guaranteed's Colin Trevorrow was an odds on favorite to take the job, but he's now busy with the Flight of the Navigator remake set up at Disney.
So whom does that leave?
It seems that Disney may now be thinking outside the box, with Seth Gordon a seemingly atypical choice. Or is he. Despite his feature films being the comedies Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief, Seth Gordon is best known amongst the nerd masses for directing the fan favorite documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, of which George Lucas is a fan. He has also been working on a WarGames reboot for MGM.
We can't confirm that Seth Gordon is directing Star Wars: Episode VII. He may even just be helping with the script. All we can say for sure is that Seth Gordon is involved, and will direct, a "space set romantic adventure" for the studio in the upcoming future. Do you want it to be Star Wars: Episode VII? Do you The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters fans think he's a good choice?
Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters in 2015 and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.
Flight of the Navigator was released July 30th, 1986 and stars Joey Cramer, Paul Reubens, Veronica Cartwright, Cliff De Young, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matt Adler, Howard Hesseman, Robert Small. The film is directed by Randal Kleiser.

Why not, I mean look what happened with Jon Favreau who before making Iron Man only had comedies in his director credits.

With Horrible Bosses being the only one of his films that I've seen, I'm not 100% confident with this choice.

Maybe he should direct something smaller that can show he's ready for a Star Wars film and then grab him years down the road for a sequel.
