Is Sam Worthington Taking Over The Dark Knight from Christian Bale?

Worthington looks better in 3D
Worthington looks better in 3D
In a story from MovieDrop, with the unabashed success of Avatar, James Cameron is wielding extraordinary powers in the realm of cinema. Well get ready for his reach to extend far beyond his grasp and his creative prowess.

It appears that Cameron is being listened to by everybody lately and this includes The Dark Knight helmer Christopher Nolan. After The Dark Knight exploded in cinemas back in 2008, Nolan was being looked at for every high profile project imaginable. Well, with Cameron's record breaking Avatar taking over every box office record on the planet, Nolan is now in somewhat of a subordinate position to the groundbreaking director.

It seems that Cameron likes Sam Worthington to take on the role of the Caped Crusader. And surprisingly, Nolan is interested.

"After Avatar knocked off Titanic from the top spot, my secretary rang me and said, 'James Cameron is on the phone,' I thought it was one of my mates having a lark," Nolan laughs. "So it was Jimmy and he says, 'Are you thinking about Batman 3?' I was like 'Every day' and he says, 'I have two words for you... Sam Worthington."

Nolan admits that he was resistant to this recasting idea at first because Christian Bale, who has played Batman in both of the newer movies, is so recognized and popular as that character.

"I probably would've told anybody else to stop mucking about... but since it was Jim I started to think about it. From a purely physical standpoint it makes sense... Sam is a real force on screen."

Also factor in that Batman 3 will most likely be shot in 3D and it makes economic sense, Worthington was in Avatar so he isn't unfamiliar shooting in that format.

"Warner Bros., after they decided to turn Clash of the Titans into a 3D film, allowed me to do a screen test of the actors side by side in 3D."

The results?

"Sam Worthington just looks better in 3D." Nolan states.

He did say that as much as he likes Worthington this isn't a guarantee that he will unseat Bale. It just opens up the franchise to other options.

During a recent presser for Clash of the Titans when asked about future projects Worthington dropped this coyly worded hint about his involvement with Batman 3.

"I've got nothing in the offing... just testing on projects presently."

When we have more information about this we will be sure to report it.

I&#180m toootaly agree with Shawn78... i think that this farse say it all... "So stop saying Worthington is the Golden Boy, he's not. He's just been lucky with the movies he's been cast in".
Bale the best Batman ever... and this article is pure crap... I don&#180t think Nolan talks that way... he is sooo profesional.

I don't know what all the fuss is about Sam Worthington to play Batman in Batman 3, I think that Worthington Isn't that good has an actor, he never changes is character, he's the same in everything he has done from Jake Sully in Avatar to Terminator Salvation. Bale should remain Batman in Batman 3 or that could mean disaster for the film in my thoughts.

Ah I see this is a supposed april fools joke so I guess never mind. I have heard this rumor before though so I just assumed this was another article trying to run with it. My comments then are directed at the people that still feed into this rumor on other sites.

I think this article is a bunch of crap. Perhaps it's based on some truth but I'm sure it's blowing it up bigger than it really is. Nolan is not eve considering recasting Batman and has stated a desire to work with Bale again. Supposedly Nolan and Bale have a very good working relationship that went beyond just two Batman films into the critically acclaimed film The Prestige. So this article is just a bunch of rubbish. Not only that but everyone knows that Worthington, though talented, is incapable of losing his Australian accent which is of course totally wrong for Batman.

Bale if fine as Batman. Leave him be.

Elm Street it takes a lot of brain power to bag on others and judging by your comment it must have taken you all day to come up with that zinger. In my post I stated MY opinion and didn't bust on anyone else point of view. I simply stated a few problems I had with the above article knowing full well that it is an April Fools joke, but still wanting to make a point about the continued Sam Worthington hype that's gone on with really nothing to justify the why. I managed to do this without insulting anyone or acting like a douche. Unlike you.

OK time to take this down now April Fools is over.
But just for the sake of argument couple things to address. #1 don't think Nolan is the type of director to let anyone dictate to him who he should cast in his movie. #2 the reviews for Titians are in and its 3D sucks so really him looking better in 3D is non issue (and its a dumb statement). #3 Worthington himself has said he would never replace Bale in Batman because he has too much respect for Bale and would never want to mess with the formula they have going right now. #4 People went to see Salvation because it was a new Terminator movie, had nothing to do with Worthington. People went to see Avatar because it was a new Cameron movie, again nothing to do with Worthington. People are going to see Titians because it's Clash of the Titians, again nothing to do with Worthington. You could have replaced him with any actor and it wouldn't have changed their appeal one bit. So stop saying Worthington is the Golden Boy, he's not. He's just been lucky with the movies he's been cast in.

Well this is false. Sorry. I know Nolan, and he won't recast Batman. Bale is far superior to Worthington in acting terms. It doesn't matter who looks better in 3D. Sure Worthington's character was better in Salvation. But he is not Batman material yet.

As for that quote above: "Well, with Cameron's record breaking Avatar taking over every box office record on the planet, Nolan is now in somewhat of a subordinate position to the groundbreaking director." Thats a load of sh*t Cameron is a talent. no doubt. and he and his friends know how to rake in money. But story wise, Nolan has been victorious in EVERY film. Entertainment wise? Cameron is a shoe in. Sometimes we need a decent story and great visuals. but groundbreaking? I save that for Nolan and few others.

lolz. the original story from 3/9/09 was funny: "According to "industry gossip" (which means: lots and lots of papers got excited about something they read, but can't remember where)." hahaha.

Good joke, but while still planning his "Avatar" sequel, and considering how respectable he is, it's already extremely doubtful that JC would be that up front about such a thing. So as to why this is getting so many angry comments? I honestly can't come up with anything right now.

Bale is the best Batman ever? clearly but when he changes his voice to "mask" the appearance on Bruce Wayne to Batman is a joke, everyone knows he sounds stupid, but overall he is good and to replace him doesnt make sense considering he was part of the The Dark Knight

New information shouldn't come on April fools, if this is true Sam would be a poor choice for the role.
