Is Pixar Gearing Up for a Monsters Inc. Sequel?

It seems that Pixar is readying yet another sequel to its animated lineup. According to Jim Hill Media, a sequel to Monsters Inc. is moving forward at the studio.

The news comes out of the Licensing International Expo 2009, where Hill reports that, "though the buyers who attended these particular preview sessions were first sworn to secrecy by Disney officials, several immediately reached out to me afterwards to say how thrilled they were to learn that Pete Docter will be following up Up with a sequel to Monsters Inc."

No plot details have emerged on the proposed sequel.

Monsters Inc. was released November 2nd, 2001 and stars John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Mary Gibbs, Steve Buscemi, James Coburn, Jennifer Tilly, Bob Peterson, John Ratzenberger. The film is directed by Pete Docter, David Silverman, Lee Unkrich.

monsters, inc. is the worst of the pixar movies, i hope they don't make a sequel to it.

Are you nuts? The Incredibles was a terrible movie. F*ck Monsters Inc.

There is a Cars 2 underway and I agree that it's the least favorite of mine of the Disney Pixar films. I totally agree that if any film should have a sequel would be The Incredibles, there is so much you could do with that franchise. I've been expecting a Monster's Inc. 2 since the first one came out lol, it ended in a way that you'd expect one. I don't think they will screw this franchise up though (unlike Dreamworks does).

Well it does seem like Pixar is out of ideas for now cuz I mean Toy Story 3, Monsters Inc. 2. But I mean theres potential for Cars 2 and The Incredibles 2 these sequels all sound good to me.

If you watch on the Pixar shorts DVD they mention that when they started Pixar they sat down and came up with a butt load of ideas and the last one on the list to be made was Wall-E which amazing. Then UP comes out and I could care less, it has no appeal with me. It looks like an extended short itself.

i don't mind sequels if they still make their original movies too. i mean they give us 2 original movies then a sequel to one of their first movies and keep that pattern i'd be fine.

i mean out of their 10 movies so far only one was a sequel, if they make Monsters Inc 2, with Toy Story 3 that makes 3 out of their twelve movies sequels. which kinda seems like a lot

hey Phil Mata, you are right on pixars policy who no sequels. I think Disney is doing the sequels under Pixars Banner.

Disney bought Blue sky (who did Ice age) and i think they are the ones who will be doing monsters inc 2. So I read.

This does not bode well. I would say that it would be good because Pixar is always good but one of the things that is so good about Pixar is its variety of ideas. I would hate for Pixar to go the way of dreamworks and only have a couple of great ideas and then just milk sequels out of them.

very cool. The Incredibles 2 would be great also.

aside from Monster Inc. and Toy Story there is only one other pixar movie that i think could handle a sequel, The Incredibles. but i definitely agree that that is one of Pixar's strong points is that they differ from Disney in that they don't make 5 sequels for every movie they make.

i think this one could be good, i don't want a Cars 2, that is maybe my least favorite of the Pixar movies. Cars or Bugs Life, neither were bad, but they just weren't as great as the other movies to me.

  21. Structure (ONSTRA)

I think a sequel would be nice, but nothing afterwards. i agree with smrtalec though. pixar is very smart to release only one movie to portray the idea, but also I've heard of cars 2, IDK if that policy is not borken already.
but even though they have sequels, they usually come after a long time then the first, like there is at least a 5 year period between a movie and its sequel in pixar.

  22. SMRTALEC

i say they should stay with their strict no-sequel policy!!! thats what makes pixar so freakin awesome!

  23. Phil Mata

Except for the Toy Story franchise, Pixar has had a strict no-sequel policy implemented for some time now. Maybe the success of Toy Story and it's sequel hype has made Pixar rethink this, or at least experiment some.
