Is James McTeigue the New Conan Director?

While it was just announced that one director was off an upcoming remake, it seems another is already in line to take his place. According to CHUD, James McTeigue (V For Vendetta, upcoming Ninja Assassin) is in talks to direct Conan.

It was reported late last week that director Brett Ratner was no longer attached to the project, and it seems that McTeigue is now the top choice to replace Ratner. The site is reporting that a deal has not yet been finalized, but talks are in place.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any other developments surrounding the Conan remake as soon as we have more information.

Conan the Barbarian was released August 19th, 2011 and stars Jason Momoa, Stephen Lang, Rachel Nichols, Ron Perlman, Rose McGowan, Bob Sapp, Leo Howard, Steven O'Donnell. The film is directed by Marcus Nispel.

Actually fans will go to see the movie so they can compare it to the old one.
Will people that haven't seen the old one, will go to see the new one (if it interests them) and then they will find the old one and compare it to that.

That's why Remakes, make money financially, despite how many fans hate them.

    I.E
I won't go to see the ANOES remake in theatre, i'll enjoy watching it online.
    Why?
Because ANOES is my fav movie of all time, i don't believe they can make it better than what it is, despite with today's technology. And the only thing that does interest me on the film is Jackie Earle Haley as Kruger, but it ain't worth paying to see, which i doubt it will even be released in the UK, friday the 13th wasn't.

In which i leave this statement as to concur with Agent Vis.

The old Conan films were made big and classics by Arnie, and they were concepts and stories created from the mind of a screenwriter, not the original source, unlike this upcoming take on the Robert E Howard charcter, which is using the original source.

In which that same concept i make for Conan you can also apply to Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes.

In which i look forward to seeing the adaptation of Conan

"They have geared it for the next generation, not us, not for the fans, that have watched from the beginning. We can say anything that we wish to say and Hollywood would only turn its back on us."

When a movie is in NEED of a reboot, don't blame Hollywood for wanting to make money off of it. The only reason the old Conan movies are so popular is because of Arnold. They didn't stay true to the stories, so get over the fact that they're "remaking" it when it's hardly a remake at all.

Do you realize that there have been two action actors to play this character. We know that Arnold took the part, hell there was a short lived TV series as well. I admit I did watch it, it looked campy and it was, but it could have been better.
Why whine about who becomes Conan? That's for children, we're adults here but opinions do come from us if the film sucks, so who cares it's only a film.
Hollywood has this stupid idea that remaking everything would be better in the long run for making money, but what they don't realize is long time fans of any kind of film may or may not watch them.
They have geared it for the next generation, not us, not for the fans, that have watched from the beginning. We can say anything that we wish to say and Hollywood would only turn its back on us.
Power and money only run Hollywood, why do you think some actors leave the lime light to become people like us.

Plus Conan needs rebooting it's a dead franchise that if revamped it could do the original stories justice. Stories have been remade since the days of the Romans it's ignorant to immediatly write off every remake as bad. Stories are retold all the time, nobody bitches when Megadeth remakes Black Sabbath's Paranoid or Metallica remakes Bob Segers Turn The Page. Nobody bitches when any other form of media gets birched out for remakes excpt movies.

Arnold is not a very good actor just sayin guys sure he's a good action hero but much like Nicolas Cage it's all up to the writer and director cause Arnie is always the same character

Ok wow this turn into a bombardment of dumb ass insults.

But both of you are kinda accurate.
Hollywood remake films because there is a lack of creativity in the noted area and because it has all been the same individuals for the past god knows how many years. The creativity is gone, and the fact of the matter is that everyone wants to do something different but roughly every possible aspect shas been explored, which this is why Hollywood needs new people within, because of the lack of creatvity in these veterans is running dry they are now resulting to remaking and rebooting to gain financial gain from both version.

Vis. I concur with you...Truthfully the old Conan films were dead and drier that roast chicken with no juices, and Robert E Howard's short can be definately explored and would make some awesome films plus you have the comics, which have some neat little stories that would make great feature legths only if adapted correctly.

Personally i'd like to see Kull get the reboot...There was a film wasn't there?

And to notify that Vis is correct that Arnie can be replaced here are 2 people i see front line for this role.

Til Schweiger (Inglorious Basterds & Far-Cry)

Roland Kickinger (T4 & See Arnold Run (Arnie Biopic)

I think my point has been pretty well proven here

They're not "redoing" anything!!! They are going to stick to the original stories, which your precious "classic" didn't do! You seem to be missing that fact.

Newsfalsh, you can't compare Lethal Weapon, a movie with an ORIGINAL story, to Conan, a movie that sh*t on Robert E. Howard's true classics. Get that through your head. It WASN'T perfect, it CAN be topped. They haven't run out of ideas, they are staying more faithful to the GOOD ideas.

"Christopher Reeve was the best Superman, and why did they redo it, To make money and sh*t on that man's legacy. Simple." Bryan Singer didn't sh*t on ANYONE'S legacy, dipsh*t. In fact, he did quite the opposite, he stayed a little TOO faithful to Reeve's legacy in case you didn't notice. Superman Returns didn't redo sh*t, it took place between the second and third films...it was a CONTINUATION. And people are still wanting a reboot, ya wanna know why? Because no matter how good Reeve was as Superman, it didn't stick to the comics. Not Superman movie has. THAT'S why they're planning on rebooting Superman. Your "points" make no sense at all.

btw, people only think hollywood has run out of ideas because it's the remakes and adaptations that get paid the most attention to...like Conan for instance. This discussion is proof of that

And another thing Agent VIS think about this logically. The batman films you say, how about this, So many people played Bruce Wayne/Batman and never made it thier own so it is not that hard for a great actor like Bale to step in and fix it. And with a great story and director it can be done. Personally i thought Micheal Keaton did a great job. But someone can do it better, Same for Terminator, Bale as John Connor, he is gonna make it his own, Nick Stahl or however you spell it did a ok job but not great, Ed Furlong was better. But here is the one thing no one can or will ever Top Arnold in Conan or as the role of The Terminater. He simple made that character his. Their is no room for enhancing it or any need to redo it because when it was done it was flawless. Even though yes it was based on a character only on PAPER. But when he played those roles he made them his own. And no one can top them. Thats like you saying someone else could step in and play Martin Riggs in the next Lethal Weapon movie if thier was ever gonna be one and no one would ever think of Mel Gibson. Are you kidding me. If something is terrible as a film with a sh*tty actor then by all means go for it. Cause it can be done better, However if a role/character id done perfectly then leave it alone their is no room for improvment. Your just letting the fact slipp that hollywood is running out of idea's and re-doing classics. Watch i garentee give it 10 years maybe 15 tops and we will have another Matrix series or something else they can rip off. And Christopher Reeve was the best Superman, and why did they redo it, To make money and sh*t on that man's legacy. Simple. Its just sad i hate like 1 or 2 people on here as much as they hate me. But, i have to say they have some origional idea's like i do. And i have to give credit where its do. And Hollywood aint doing sh*t latley. oh yeah and to prove my point when they run out of idea's i have no doubt was of these executives whenever they ran out of an idea's or a writer one of thier kids was watching a cartoon and he was like wow. X-men, Spiderman, Iron Man, Hulk, put money on it i can milk this sh*t for billions. Im not on a rant or anything im just saying these guys need to start listening, Cause obviously they cant do it anymore,

You're point isn't valid. Valid means "logically correct." You're not thinking logically because you have a boner for Arnold. It doesn't matter if you can't think of anybody that can replace him, the point is that he CAN be replaced.

But whatever...I guess we'll see. It's possible an unknown could be hired.

Who gives a sh*t about Arnie? That's been my point...this is a reboot. It doesn't matter if Arny is in it. Conan was a pre-existing character that the original films didn't stay faithful to. That's like saying no one can replace Christopher Reeve as Superman. Was he an amazing Superman? Yes. Are the movies(the first two) great? Yes. Are people still clamoring for a reboot(and rightly so?) YES AGAIN. End of discussion

I agree Agent VIS, the orginal source material needs to be explored. The orignal shrot stories were sweet and could make for a bunch of cool films. and someone other than arnold can be conan, who I dont know but they will find someone. I really want to see a conan film with todays effect and film technology, I just hope they read some Robert E. Howard first before writing.

HAPPYJACK, Arnold can't roll in his grave because he's not dead yet. However, he will be crying at how much better and faithful this movie is than his performance, at least that's what they're saying(it'll be more faithful to Howard's stories)

Remy, ur just as stupid because even "classics" are supposedly based on pre-existing characters, but then f*ck them up. Burton's Batman was a good movie, but wasn't anything close to the comics. Then Batman Begins kicked the character into high gear again. The same can happen with Conan. Nothing's written in stone just because your boyfriend the Governator starred in it. F*ck off

    3 years agoby @insertusernamehereFlag

You people are a bunch of f*cking idiots. Do you even realize that Conan was already a pre-existing character before the movie? The movie was not written for Arnold and it wasn't even written with the original source material in mind. Shut the f*ck up. Saying no one can play him after Arnold is just ridiculous when, well, there's other people that can do it, and Robert E. Howard's original stories have yet to be explored.

McTeigue is a capable director. Whether he can handle Conan is a wait-and-see situation, but I loved V for Vendetta and it's better than Brett f*cking Ratner.
