Is Gore Verbinski Directing Bioshock?

While it was recently announced that Gore Verbinski's adaptation of the video game Bioshock, it seems that the director might not be able to make the picture at all. L.A. Times recently spoke with Verbinski about the film being put on hold and he revealed that he might not be able to direct the film.

The bottom line is it has to shoot out of the States for budget reasons and my schedule may be prohibitive. There's a great script and a really interesting cast. It really comes down to the financial model now. Big movies are just not being shot in the States. I'm weighing whether I can physically go the U.K. or Australia or one of those other places with a tax rebate for a year-and-a-half.

It was also reported in April that Verbinski wouldn't be directing Pirates of the Caribbean 4 so he could direct Bioshock. It remains to be seen if Verbinski would go back on board the Johnny Depp pirate series if Bioshock does fall through.

We'll certainly keep you posted on any and all new developments surrounding both films.

Bioshock is in development and stars Wentworth Miller, Braden Lynch. The film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

I haven't heard any news on Halo in forever so I figured it was in limbo land lol. And they just announced I think it was like May 15th or something that Gears of War was being budgeted, but it's definitely moving forward which I'm glad.

Chad, Halo had started production phase and with budget complete, done and dusted (send me a message if your'd like to read the ) and even director attached, look where that is now.

The news for Tekken & Gears Of Warm movie adptations haven't been updated upon for ages, i don't see them happening.
I've noticed the pattern that all of the biggest game franchises they get optioned for a film evenutally at some point fall into the production or pre-production hell phase.

see what i mean? newkill hasn't/doesn't ever say anything positive on ANY thread.

and i agree SLIM, i bet this'll remain in pre-pro development hell like Halo which was originally due out last summer, though it was confirmed long before the projected release date that it wouldn't be a reality...at least anytime soon.

It's got my vote but it may just end up like Halo (which would be kind of difficult), Gears of War and God of War. So us fans will just have to wait and see.

It could be such an amazing movie, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Oh and btw Ottley, Gears is being budgeted right now so it will be first out of the gate. I'm kinda scared because their budget to make a movie off of the Gears universe would cost more than any other movies. Think Lord of the Rings but WAY more CGI lol.

BioShock did win game of the year of 2007. It was probably one of the best story based games. I don't know why you guys compare it to Watchmen lol, has literally nothing to do with Watchmen. If you are simply comparing that the Watchmen comic book can have an amazing story for a that genre, then so can a first person shooter, then I would agree. Most FPS are bland, like Halo for example, I mean it'd probably be cool to see on screen, but BioShock has a unique setting (which is my favorite part) mixed with some creepiness, some 'oh sh*t' moments, and a story that you didn't see coming lol. Besides, you get cool power thingies like you can throw people or light people on fire etc. Think of a psycho Atlantis kind of setting, but everything is 50s ish. Yeah, who thinks up this stuff lol?

haha WTF, and where the f*ck did that even come from Newkill? just out of nowhere with pointless insults. i seriously question the functionality of ur brain sometimes, it must compute slower then the rest of us. Sly responded to someone else, then u get PMS all over the message board like always. ur uselessness baffles me.

anyway i'd prefer for him to do neither. he started to lose his touch a bit with Pirates 3, i mean i liked it but it lacked something the rest of the trilogy had, so i think it would be cool to get some new blood in there. and i just like Vis's idea of Fincher for Bioshock, Fincher f*ckin rocks.

OMG! The retard strikes again! And actually dumbf*ck, YOU replied to the VERY SAME type of data I wrote down about Friday the 13th failing in Feb '09. AND HOW BIASED CAN YOU BE PRICK, deeman138 mentioned awards as well!!!! WTF is wrong with you? R U gonna plague the site? B kicked out again by this weekend?

At least I aint doin favors for f*ck ups like you, since i get more kudos on this site for said data than anyone else, like say, YOU for your useless comments, for you haven't posted 1 positive comment yet.

Slysnide, you stupid bitch, no one gives a sh*t about who won any award. I hope you don't think your doing anybody any favors by putting this info on the site, because they can get it better told from a better source. It's sad to see a dumbass like yourself gave Terminator 3, 4 stars.

I wouldn't think he'd have to worry about any tax rebate issues given his wealth from the overly successful POTC Trilogy.

And yeah deeman138, HL2 won 35 various game of the year awards in 2004. Most of them for the PC version, but still impressive. I've got the PS2 & PC versions of the original game, the PC one being the "game of the year edition" featuring "Team Fortress" as an added bonus, plus the supposed ability to create your own levels via WAD files to play once the game is beaten, though all I've talked to deny it ever working.

A Bioshock movie sounds intresting, but to call it The Watchmen of video games? I do not know about that, if anything the Watchmen of video games would probably go to Half Life 2, and i would love to see a movie version of that.

Look when are these people gonna f*cking learn...

Verbrinski has already stated he has dropped Bioshock, he confirmed it in an interview in a xbox 360 games mag.
His next film is under the working title of MMORPG.

This film will end up like Halo, Gears, God of war, hits pre-production and stays in pre-production.

They need to stop continuing on with this bullsh*t about Verbrinski on baord to direct Bioshock with a f*cking ?.

OOOOO and Ditto on that Vis, Fincher and a prequel to Bioshock would be amazing.

    IT'S FANTF*CKINGTASTIC lmao

It won Game of the Year in 2007. I call it the Watchmen of video games...it combines stunning graphics and easy gameplay with a unique and complex story. The sequel is getting released in November...can't f*cking wait

Not to stray from the film topic, but how is the game?

    3 years agoby @zanyzapFlag

  24. ZanyZap

    Bioshock or Pirates?
Though, I know nothing of the game, I'd rather him direct Bioshock, simply because we already have three Pirate films. If "a great and a really interesting cast," is ready, I'd follow through with it, and then set sail with Johnny afterwards.

Make it a prequel based on the audio diaries with David Fincher directing. I'm sick and tired of this Verbinski bullsh*t.
