Is Aaron Johnson Up for Peter Parker in the Spider-Man Reboot?

Aaron Johnson joins the list of the candidates for Spider-Man
Every possible young actor in Hollywood has been mentioned in regards to playing Marvel's web-slinging hero Peter Parker in director Marc Webb's upcoming Untitled Spider-Man Reboot. We've heard such diverse names as Jamie Bell and Donald Glover tossed about. But now the short list of actors said to be locked for an audition has grown by two. In an exclusive story from The Los Angeles Times, it seems that Kick-Ass's own titular hero Aaron Johnson could be up for the role.

This would certainly be a boon to the film, as Webb hopes to take the popular franchise in more of a Kick-Ass direction in terms of its action, look, and storyline. But nothing is certain when it comes to Sony's Untitled Spider-Man Reboot, as it seems Anton Yelchin is also yet another actor trying to throw his hat into the pile.

Of course, the fact that these names are being spoken in conjunction with Marc Webb's film means nothing at this point. Since it was announced that he was directing the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot, Marc has cast quite a large net, canvassing all options in filling the shoes left by Tobey Maguire. The only obvious thing tying all of these actors together is that none of them look like Tobey Maguire, and that might be a very good thing for both the production and its eager fans.

The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

Even though Aaron Johnson is better than all the other actors mentioned, I still believe that there are better choices. What the hell is happening with SONY??!!

  9. UNoLazyboy

He would be a terrible choice for the spider-man film. But then again Bell isn't much of an option either. Damn it Sony why couldn't you have let Raimi do his thing the way he wanted!?!

if Peter Parker is in highschool, and unless he's a slow student, people over 20 are way too old for the role... ah.. why bother? Tobey Maguire forever

Anton Yelchin is the best man for the job and too say hes too old is stupid. Hes barely 21 now. He can act in any role. Alpha Dog, Charlie Bartlet, House of D, and not to mention he was the best part about Terminator Salvation. He looks like hes f*cking 15 yrs old which is exactly what they need. Yelchin is the best route to go on the reboot.

LOL@Movieweb: Since when does this movie have "eager fans"? The consensus is pretty much that no one wants to see it.

  17. The Narrator: The Better Man

It's too close to his Kick Ass portrayal, as @Insert said below, so thats a no-go for me. I am sure the writers could change it up a bit, but its a risk I'd rather not take.

Yelchin is still too old. If they were going for that age, Webb would have chosen Levitt, but the story demands a younger Parker of course, and Webb knows that casting the right age group is key. Jamie Bell is the oldest of the studios picks, and an unfamiliar face, but he can pull of nerdy at least. Most of you haven't seen him act (and I've seen him several times), but already scream no! because he's not Lerman. Lerman would be a great PP, but still, Bell would do well too, and add that "edge" that some of you want.

Anyways, I trust Webb, and will watch this movie whatever the outcome.

Too many people have been associated with the role to actually know what the hell is going on. With all these names being thrown around, even after the producers allegedly narrowed their list to five, it is clear to me that the producers have no idea what they are doing. They need to hand the project off to someone, whether it be Raimi or another person, that knows what to do. They are wasting time, and quite frankly, are just annoying the hell out of me. There is apparently a plethora of choices, but none of them seems to have stood out. I like Johnson, at least because he's younger than Bell, but as of now, he's just another name the producers have pulled out of the hat.

The only problem with Johnson is that it may be too close to his character in Kick-Ass, and there is a sequel planned for that movie, so...Yelchin's probably your best bet.
