Is a Third Donnie Darko Film in the Works?

Is another Donnie Darko tale in the works at Fox? If a new rumor is to be believed, then it seems so. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that 20th Century Fox is moving forward with yet another Donnie Darko sequel.

The studio released the straight-to-DVD sequel S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale last month and it seems that a third film is being readied, and that original Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly might actually be involved on some level.

While S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale really wasn't that bad, how will a third film work? Will they continue to follow Sam or will they just create a brand new character? If in fact Richard Kelly is involved (he turned down the chance to direct S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale), we have to wonder whether this will see a theatrical release or just go straight to DVD/BD. Only time will tell...

The site hadn't received confirmation from the studio as of yet, so we'll be sure to keep you posted on any new developments surrounding this potential sequel.

Donnie Darko was released October 26th, 2001 and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Holmes Osborne, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Daveigh Chase, Mary McDonnell, James Duval, Arthur Taxier, Patrick Swayze. The film is directed by Richard Kelly.

And i agree Donnie Darko should have been a one off.

Donnie Darko did'nt need a sequel. It was a one story film and should have been left as such.

The shouldnt of been a second one. And now they want to make a third one. It ended with the first one. The wasnt anything in it that left it open for a sequel. Just leave it alone. The preview for S.Darko looked like crap. Certain movies should have sequels and this wasnt one of them.
