Hahahaha... Yes! Though, I don't think they can pull off the ridiculousness that were the last two. Though, I do give Anderson credit for the first installment--'specially that Scorpion scene... Kicked ass.
And @Chad Vital...
They're saying that the screenwriter had already written a film that was "famously" blacklisted last year entitled "Shimmer Lake"--not Mortal Kombat, which he has yet to write.

i think the only way they can do this right is if they don't make it for the mass market like wolverine with a 12A it needs atleast a 15 certificate you cant do mortal kombat well without the gore of a fatality, i don't want another DOA shambles or what i'm assuming the new tekken film is like

I don't understand exactly what they are saying in this article. It was infamously black listed but is ranked as one of the best unproduced screenplays on the market? That literally makes no sense at all lol. They contradict one another.

It's about damn time. I have been waiting for another once since 1997. I hope they make it nothing but blood and gore. This could be an epic movie.

If rebooted it should be dark not kid friendly with an "R" rating the games when they arrived in the 90's were incredible for the amount of in your face violence. The first one was a good attempt at making a movie out of this game but again it was kid friendly which really was a turn the second one well kinda sucked....

Just to be clear, they are going to make another remake? So it's another remake and let me guess 3D. Is it me or did we not see how well dragonball, street fighter, and all the other movies that have come out did in theaters? It doesn't matter I am still going to watch it so that I will have something to talk about.

I liked the first one back in the day, if bad actors weren't in them and the script story good enough than more the better.
The first film, had bad acting and the script was pore.
There is a chance to weave a strong story around the characters and not focus to much on the fighting. If this is done right, it might be nearly as good as LOTR films, but less on the drama.

What they need to do with franchises like this is get a really good director (Chris Nolen, Guy Richie, David Fincher) and let them do whatever they want, no rules, and make the movie totally their own. I guarantee the film we end up with would be amazing.

How could MK be more horror than action? It's a friggin' fighting game! XD Nah, whatever comes out it'll surely be a bit cheesy because even the games have always been kinda comical and self-ironic. I think that no one can expect an MK movie to be a masterpiece!
I think it would only work if they accept this and make it a genre film - a martial arts movie with fantasy elements. But they would have to find some good martial artists who could act here, it's probably not easy.

maybe if they make it into more of a horror movie then action, well then maybe itll have a shot.. but i can see this going down hill just like dbz, street fighter & tekken... i just dont see what they cant do with this? i love the characters and franchise tho...

This was a pretty cool idea back in 95 when the first one came out because the game was still very much relevant...Having been a huge fan of the sega game, when the film came out everyone thought it was a pretty big deal. The movie itself still didn't stack up with other action/fighting movies but it didnt matter. What's the point of doing this 15years after the fact... Is there still a big game following that would make a movie actually make sense.? I do feel if done 'right' it could be really good, but that seldom happens with these sorts of game to movie adaptations

I really don't think there are enough good actors that can actually pull of good fight scenes for this. As far as i can remember. there hasn't been a good fighting game to movie. DOA, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat 2. Everything they try f*cking blows! Mortal Kombat was the only thing that was anywhere near decent, but it's kinda sh*tty too.

now if they do it with some serious f*ckin fighting in it and not some clumsy floppy sh*t like in the fist two movies it would stand out and get attention, i think jet li would be good in a mortal combat movie.....what you guys and gals think ?

I feel if they go with this that they should get actors who actually have martial arts experience. I mean look at the movies people have mentioned. Street Fighter and Double Dragon. Only one guy in those movies had any experience. Mark Dacascos and JCVD. Then you get to the Mortal Kombat movies which you only have a few also. Robin Shou was the only one with a speaking part with experience. The guys who play Scorpion(Chris Casamassa), Sub Zero(François Petit), and Reptile(Keith Cooke) all had experience, and then a few of the other extras that were in some of the fights that actually knew martial arts. Just the same with the second one. I mean Cynthia Rothrock would have played a way better Sonya Blade than Bridgette Wilson. If they went out and found people with experience then their would be less doubles in scenes, and the fight would look more genuine. Also, put a acting coach on the set. Look how it turned out for Hayden Hayden Christensen. He did a horrible job in the Clone Wars, but it was turned around in Revenge of the Sith when there was an acting coach on set.

whats up wth people saying "Dont screw this up"? are you expecting watchmen? this is a FIGHTING GAME!!!!!
honestly guys dont kid yourselves. Mortal Kombat is a fighting game, meaning the stories in fighting games blow, meaning they dont make good movies, meaning if you are thinking this movie "Better be faithful"....just shut up.
gimme kick ass fighting scenes, and no cheesy dialog. thats how you make an MK movie if you must make it.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Sadly Illuminati has a point and I fear they might do that here.
But if they did take it seriously and really try. Like give it to a visionary director one who has established a name (Snyder isn't half bad) and then get fully immersive producers behind him, then they can do real good here. And it would make money. I mean what if Transformers wen the way Street Fighter and Dragonball did? I mean that could have really flopped but it didn't. Same can happen here.

Illuminati
the first was fun, kinda stylish and considering it's one of the first GAME-to-FILMS made, it was better than i expected. 2nd was trash.
as Xoxo666 said, this will be in the vien of NINJA ASSASSIN/TEKKEN. But just like these titles these movies are not really aimmed at the AMERICAN MARKET. They're real money is from ASIA & EUROPEAN dvd sales! If they get anything from US sales, its a bonus.
Just like the countless Segal, Snipes, JCVD movies, they are just going after a certain martket and keeping to formulaic method.

Had a vision of this film, it would be truly faithful to the series. I actually had mapped out a trilogy. Zack Snyder would kick ass as the director. The characters and plot need to stick to the very first game.
