Irvine Welsh to Direct The Magnificent Eleven

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has been set to direct the soccer comedy The Magnificent Eleven, for Angry Badger Pictures.

According to Variety, Welsh will work with the father-son writing team Pete and John Adams on the next draft of the screenplay.

The Magnificent Eleven is scheduled to shoot later this year. It's a modernization of the Magnificent Seven centered on a local amateur soccer team, a Tandoori restaurant and a group of menacing thugs.

    this sounds good.

First up, the magnificent 7 was based on Karisawa's Seven Samurai's. Movies have used this basic premise over again ever since, for Comedies or action.
From DOGEBALL to OCEANS 11, FULL MONTY to RESERVOIR DOGS, LORD OF THE RINGS to REPLACEMENTS. And when done right it has proved to work. This is no exception.
