Drew Pearce to write Iron Man 2
Robert Downey Jr. is set to reprise his role as Tony Stark sometime after he shoots The Avengers. No story details have been released at this time. Drew Pearce was hired to write the sequel after penning the latest draft of Runaways for Marvel, which centers on a group of super powered teenagers who discover their parents are evil villains.
Drew Pearce will work closely with Shane Black in concocting this next tale. Marvel is saying that the story will be written from scratch, hinting that it is a "reboot". So, now they are rebooting another series that people like while they are in the midst of their franchise. Does this make sense to anyone else?
Iron Man 3 comes to theaters May 3rd, 2013 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Jessica Chastain, James Badge Dale. The film is directed by Shane Black.

@jptheredskull. As long as they learned their lesson and make the film focused on Tony more, its called Ironman, not Ironman and Friends :]

I'll believe it when I see it

I'm beginning to think that these are all lies, Batman reboot, Ironman reboot. No one wants to see a reboot but does Hollywood care, noooo.

well IRONMAN 2 had many faults, but allow this man and Shane to take it back into gritty territory and make it wholsome and fun and dark instead of archetypal crum like the last outing

@bane5000 They actually said it wouldn't be a reboot. However, it just wouldn't focus heavily on Avengers stuff or feature other heroes like Favreau planned. Iron Man 2 taught them a lesson. It would be more character focused.

it's not a reboot. if it was then they'd recast it like they're saying they're going to do with the batman "reboot" thats supposedly coming. i dont care what you wanna call it, its a SEQUEL. period. and yeah, happy april fools day everyone.

I still wish they were doing Runaways as a Joss Whedon TV project rather than a film. That would be a perfect fit.

People need to chill on freaking out about the word "reboot" because it doesn't necessarily mean they're going to retell the origin or anything like that. They have been saying for a while now they want to break this movie from the "Avengers" tie-in stories they've been telling so far. The fact that it's a stand-alone adventure means just that, that it's going to exist completely on its own without ties to the other films. It doesn't mean they're going to recast the characters or retell the same story again.

I find it highly unlikely that Marvel would mess with a winning formula. They have spent so much time, money and effort in developing their cinematic universe and continuity, that I don't believe they would mess with that. If it was being developed by FOX or Sony, maybe, but this is very much Marvel's own creatively controlled franchise.
It has been stated in previous news threads that Iron Man 3 would be exactly that, an Iron Man feature. And why wouldn't it?! Sure, maybe an odd cameo, and some dialog to explain why the other Avengers aren't in on the action, but the two previous films have been great and a third will do just as well!
So I am taking this article with a very BIG grain of salt... something to do with the closeness of April the 1st might have something to do with it also...

@bawnian-dexeus there's no reason to assume things like that. Marvel jettisoned Norton and Terrence Howard for reasons off camera. Howard let it get to his head, and Norton was clashing with people behind the scenes. Unless Ruffalo and Cheadle have 180 degree changes in their attitudes, they have these jobs for the duration.

@Joshua-Hollaway Couple things. One, I don't crush people for typos. They happen. As for the thread Marvel is doing, I believe that after The Avengers, they will continue to do the same thing--dropping little Easter Eggs in each film(IM3, Thor 2, Cap 2, and possibly IH2). If they do this, then they will not reboot the IM series, so as not to screw with the continuity of things. Perhaps what they mean is that the next IM film will only contain Stark, and not a whole team.

@ejk1 not necessarily im pretty sure that there will be sequals to the other heroes first like Thor, Ant-man..Nick Fury might get his own spin-off by then..and hell maybe HULK will return with The Leader...thats what i want =p but they can easily set the stage of off any of those movies...there not just gonna jump into another Avengers after Ironman 3 lol

arent reboot's usually with different stars in the lead? i really cant forsee that it will be a reboot, just because of the avengers.

@Joshua-Hollaway What if Marvel decides to make a sequel to The Avengers? Kind of shoots the whole "reboot makes sense" theory in the head, doesn't it?

You what Marvel suck a dick, why you rebooting this, it is unneccessary and the first 2 movies were great, I hope everyone at Marvel chokes on a fat one and get sliced to pieces, Jesus Christ, you guys f*cking suck

You guys it kinda makes sense to reeboot it...after The Avengers its gonna be kinda hard to forget about the other heroes and so forth and the only way to get you guys to forget about the EPIC team-up..is...TO ACT LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED...so thats what this reboot is about..to get back on track with just IRONMAN im sure the others will be mentioned..maybe even a cameo( very unlikely) but they want to focus on IRONMAN cause its HIS movie..so yes..a RE-BOOT is definatley necessary..
