Leigh Whannell and James Wan will reunite for an Insidious sequel
Alliance Films is moving forward on a sequel to last year's successful horror tale Insidious, with writer-director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell in talks to return for the sequel.

Insidious was one of the biggest box office surprises of 2011, raking in an impressive $54 million domestically and over $150 million worldwide, from just a $1.5 million budget. Jason Blum will also return as producer, as will Insidious executive producers Oren Peli, Steven Schneider, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones.

No plot details were given for the sequel, and it isn't known if Insidious stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne are reprising their roles. The original horror tale revolved around a young boy, who has become possessed by an evil spirit.

Alliance Films, which financed Insidious, is on board to finance the sequel, and distribute it in Canada, with FilmDistrict distributing the project domestically. The producers hope to start production later this year, with a 2013 release being targeted.

Insidious was released April 1st, 2011 and stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Andrew Astor, Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Barbara Hershey. The film is directed by James Wan.

Seriously surprising news- not "OH MY GOD YESS"! But "Hmm...thats different?" I didnt expect them to do a sequel, maybe its the cash cow but honestly Wan doesnt seem to be like that, have you seen the first Saw film, yes sublime, have you seen the others- Wan is only attached to the only first three films, which were fiarly good, but did he cash in on the others, no! Saying that Saw 1 is the only Saw i have seen :P I cnat say if they are cash cows or not!

Okay, I loved Insidious, but horror movie sequels do not do well. I'm gonna be skeptical about this until I see a trailer.

@2movieguys The scary argument doesn't really work. Sadly horror movies aren't scary at all nowadays.

Loved the first movie. I'm all for it as long as Wan and Whannell come back.

Insidious was genuinely frightening. That's very rare. And even more rare in a PG-13 film. I am all for a sequel IF it has the same actors and the family return.
