Inside Man Bows with $29 Million

Spike Lee's heist movie Inside Man took an estimated $29 million from the domestic boxoffice to become the No. 1 film in the marketplace, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Among the other new openers, Buena Vista Pictures' PG-13 horror movie Stay Alive intrigued the teen audience, which rewarded it with an estimated $11.2 million and a third-place showing, but Lionsgate Films' Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector had to settle for $7.1 million, which earned it a seventh-place finish.

Inside Man easily trumped the previous weekend's boxoffice winner, Warner Bros. Pictures' V for Vendetta, which witnessed a 51.9% decline and dropped to second place. Its weekend tally of an estimated $12.3 million brought its domestic total to date to $46.2 million.

Despite the international debut this weekend of the No. 1 U.S. title, Universal's Inside Man, starring Denzel Washington, MGM's remake The Pink Panther managed to retain first place overseas with an estimated boxoffice gross of $10.6 million at 4,186 screens in 53 markets. Nonetheless, Inside Man, garnered an estimated $9.6 million at 1,400 screens in 18 territories. In its weekend global opening, the film pulled boxoffice of nearly $40 million.

Inside Man was released March 24th, 2006 and stars Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Christopher Plummer, Willem Dafoe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Carlos Andrés Gómez, Kim Director. The film is directed by Spike Lee.
