Cinematographer Wally Pfister will not participate in 3D conversion of Inception
An Inception 3D Blu-ray has not been formally announced at this time, and cinematographer Wally Pfister isn't sure if it will ever be released. He says that Warner Bros. is working on the conversion, but neither he nor Christopher Nolan are involved with it.
"I'm personally not a big 3-D fan. It doesn't really work for me. I don't like the glasses, I don't like the dark image, you know, through there. And it feels a little gimmicky to me. That's my own personal preference, I'm not a big fan of that. In terms of the immersion for the audience, we like to do things like film things in IMAX and put it on a much larger canvas and higher resolution rather than three-dimensional. So in terms of what's happening with Inception, you know, Chris and I are like-minded in that way. I don't know whether they're going release a DVD version in 3-D or not, but that's definitely [going to release]. It's just not something I'm that interested in as a filmmaker."
If Warner Bros. does decided to release Inception in 3D, it won't be until much later in the year.
Inception was released July 16th, 2010 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

@ejk1 This is true, but I pray that the final act of Batman, the franchise he'll likely be remembered for first and foremost down the road, isn't that first misstep of his. He can screw up all he wants afterwards (okay, not ALL he wants, but you know what I mean).

@dan1 I know, but I don't want to put the cart before the horse. Clint Eastwood's record as a director is incredible, but it did take a hit with Hereafter. My point is that anyone can have a misstep.

@ejk1 The likelihood/chances of TDKR not being deserving of accolades is I'm going to guess going to be small. This is Nolan after all, the dude understands cinema at a level not a lot of film makers do, and like an intelligent person would, he surrounds himself with the best of people. I know, I'm gloating like a fanboy, but that is due to his solid reputation that I place my faith in, unabashedly so.

@dan1 @diaigma That could be, but we have to remember that all three LOTR films are shot at one time, which meant that the quality of the first would more than likely be carried over. There are no guarantees this will deserve any awards. While I feel that TDK got the shaft, it would be equally wrong to give TDKR accolades if it doesn't deserve it.

If done well I enjoy 3D myself but I've only seen Tron: Legacy. I certainly did enjoy it though and the glasses weren't all that bad to me, much better than those old paper ones! I just don't think every movie has to be 3D but certain ones are perfect for it. I would think Inception would be one of those films actually.

@diaigma This is true. And Lord of the Rings was a fantasy movie, so that was especially impressive that they'd honor it like that.

@dan1 -
Maybe they're going the "Return of the King" route with Nolan?

So now we have multiple Academy Award winners working on and making The Dark Knight Rises. Can we give Nolan some respect in the 2013 Oscars, Academy? How about it?

The more I watch 3-D films, the more I expect them to be like the terminator ride at Universal Studios

I'd really be surprised at any longtime DP who really champions 3D, especially conversion after they've already made the film they wanted to.
