Ice Cube will be wearing a number of different hats on his next project. According to Variety, the versatile star will write, produce and star in his latest project, Janky Promoters. Cube's spec script is the first film he has written since The Friday After Next six years ago.

Cube will star as one half of a low-level promotions team who manage to book an A-list rapper in a mid-level venue and they end up getting way in over their heads. Dimension Films picked up the project and Bob Weinstein said he wants to cast a top-talent rapper to star as himself.

"This feels a lot like Uptown Saturday Night to me, a caper film where you have these music promoters who are slightly shady but are good enough guys that you root for them," Weinstein told Daily Variety. "This is going to be R-rated, and it appeals right to the core of Cube's audience."

The film is aiming at a start date in early summer. Cube is also developing a remake of Welcome Back, Kotter under his first-look deal with Dimension.
