John Singleton teaming with Ice Cube for N.W.A. Biopic?
"I can't talk about it too prematurely about the stuff I'm doing because nothing's come to fruition yet, but Ice Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A. story," John Singleton told The Playlist. "The script is really, really good, and so we're just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it."
Four writers, including Andrea Berloff, S. Leigh Savidge, Alan Wenkus and Matt Alvarez, are attached to the project which centers on the influential gangsta rap group. Straight Outta Compton is the title being thrown around for the project.

@checkmate1720 you're being a little stupid here. By no means am I, or maynard, suggesting that being a "sellout" is a bad thing. In fact all they are really doing is selling in. You see, in order to make money, you have to do something. In order to make more money than that, you have to do something extra. Cube, T, and many others have changed many things about themselves in order to make themselves more marketable. Cube now does Coors Light commercials, mainly because of the fact that he has made those movies. Metallica, for their Load album in 1996, cut their hair and wore eyeliner in order to reach an audience that largely went away from thrash metal to a more generic brand of rock. Metallica didn't change their whole style at that time because wearing makeup was who they now were, but rather they were trying to identify with a larger portion of consumers. I'm not suggesting that no one is allowed to have personal growth, and I am definitely not saying that these two men did not go through said growth. However, they like so many before them, have taken some jobs not for art's sake, but for profit's sake. You even said it yourself: "And if you have to ACT like a COP then so be it, it pays the bills."

One thing I do know is that if the street ever had to come out of those two, it would be like riding a bike.

@ejk1, how do you know they are not making art for the sake of making art? Can you read their minds? I'm all for them changing their images to make more money and so on but to suggest that they are "Saleouts" because Cube make kid movies when when's a Gangster rapper is preposterous! Cube has children and has gone on record saying that he made those movies for them. Ice-T was a true to life PIMP and transitioned to being an actor. Actors ACT! And if you have to ACT like a COP then so be it, it pays the bills. To suggest that they should remain the same person(s) they were in the 80's & 90's just shows that people want you to stay angry, stay in the street and all for the sake of "KEEPIN' IT REAL"! To hell with that! Grow as a man and feed your family by legal means!

@thedude1 @checkmate1720 As Maynard James Keenan wrote in the song "Hooker With A Penis" for his band Tool, anyone who signs his name on the dotted line is "selling out." They are no longer making art for art's sake, but rather art for profit's sake. Those gangsta rappers that you mention made their music as much to sell their records and get publicity to sell more as they did to voice an opinion. As these rappers wished to further their careers, they had to change some aspects of their images. So we have Cube and T playing cops and kids movies and whatnot.

@thedude1 I didn't ignor what you said. In a nutshell you said that Gangster rappers from the 80's and 90's are saleouts for playing cops and making family movies. I just pointed out that people grow as individuals. Our views change, our likes our dislikes and so on. You suggest that they should still want to kill cops and be thugged out. I say when you're as rich as the two you mentioned, why be angry at all? Why not evolve into a better person. I used to thug all the time. Now that I'm older, the things that I used to do is for the birds.

@checkmate1720 Thanks for ignoring what I said. My point was who goes from cop killer to cop on TV or making kids movies? It doesn't make any sense now does it?

Oh SNAP! This movie is gonna be the shiznit if it ever gets made! 'EFIL 4 ZAGGIN' should be the name of the movie!

@thedude1, that's because you "THINK" people are not supposed to grow! You have been in the same place that you were in in the 80's and 90's and somehow think that everybody else should do like you have done. Not very evolved at all.

I find it funny how all these gangster rap groups from the 80s and 90s who made music about killing cops and what not are now complete sell outs. Especially Ice Cube and Ice-T. Ice Cube makes a bunch of kids movies and tv shows nowadays meanwhile Ice-T has been a cop of television for 10 years. Not very gangster at all.
