Deadwood actor, Ian McShane has signed on to star in the football drama We Are Marshall for Warner Brothers.

He'll join Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Fox, and David Strathairn in the film based on the true story of a small town's efforts to rebuild after the 1970 plane crash that killed nearly the entire football team and coaching staff of Marshall University.

Variety says McShane will portray a steel mill exec who deals with losing a son in the crash while serving as an influential university board member constantly challenging attempts to resurrect the football program.

We Are Marshall is currently shooting in West Virginia under the direction of McG; Warner plans to release the film on December 8th.

We Are Marshall was released December 22nd, 2006 and stars Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Fox, Anthony Mackie, David Strathairn, Ian McShane, Kate Mara, January Jones, Kimberly Williams-Paisley. The film is directed by McG.
