"My name is Robert Neville. I am a survivor living in New York. If there is anybody out there...anybody. Please. You are not alone."

Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague -- The Infected -- lurk in the shadows ... watching Neville's every move ... waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered ... and quickly running out of time.

I Am Legend was released December 14th, 2007 and stars Will Smith, Alice Braga, Charlie Tahan, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Willow Smith, Darrell Foster, April Grace, Dash Mihok. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence.

I am legend is actually a book written by a guy named Matheson back in 1954. The setting was LA, Calif. during the 70's. There actually are three film interpretations of the book. The original titled "The Last Man on Earth" released in the 1960's staring Vincent Price where the population turned into Zombies/Vampires. The second version was mentioned by sullleader99 as Omega Man during the 70's. Interesting the third version was originally slated to be released in the 90's by Ridley Scott as a Schwarzenneger vehicle. We all know how those went. Granted, Total Recall is still my favorite Phillip K. Dick story interepretation (i.e. did anyone see Cage in Next, rest my case). Each film did seem to touch on themes for its time. Last Man on Earth delved into the side effects of Nuclear Radiation, Omega Man dealt with Civil Rights/Racial/war issues. It will be interesting to see what current events are parralled in the new movie, terrorism perhaps. The book is also a graphic novel. This book also served as inspiration for the successful comic Y:The Last Man where a disease wipes out the male species from the Earth less one semi-lucky man. This is also tapped for production as a film.

This movie sounds like a remake for the 70's movie "The Omega Man." It starred Charleston Heston, who play a military doctor who he thinks that he's the last man on Earth. It also takes place in New York. The idea is the same with a virus the kills everyone in the world and Charleston character made a cure and injects themself with it to save it from getting destoryed. He also attacked by people who got mutanted by the virus. They turn all white and they can't live in the light, like vampires.

Ummm... If you're the LAST human on Earth, what (really) is the point? Can't reproduce/repopulate... It's only a matter of time. Pretty bleak, indeed.
