I Am Legend Prequel to Be a Sequel After All?

We reported two months ago that Warner Bros. was moving forward with a prequel to last year's hit film, I Am Legend. Now it seems that I Am Legend 2 might indeed be a sequel after all... somehow. Ain't It Cool News recently had a scooper email them about the new film, indicating that it might be a sequel after all...

Let's start at the beginning. Smith is actually the one who developed the initial story. It took place several years before the original film and there were still pockets of survivors and the story centered around Smith interacting, bonding, and ultimately failing to save them. For months this was the story. Warner's didn't much care for it and Smith and Weiss eventually came on board and all parties agreed to change things up. Well this change is pretty insane, the film is no longer a prequel, it's a f*&^ing sequel!

The site also said that they had never interacted with this scooper before, so this news should be "consumed with a grain of salt." Of course, the studio hasn't commented on the development of I Am Legend 2 and the news is fairly tricky since Will Smith didn't exactly make it out of the first film unscathed...

We'll certainly keep you posted on any developments concerning I Am Legend 2.

I Am Legend was released December 14th, 2007 and stars Will Smith, Alice Braga, Charlie Tahan, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Willow Smith, Darrell Foster, April Grace, Dash Mihok. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence.

I Am Legend 2 is in development .

    I like Will Smiths Idea it has the chance to top the first one its just to bad the suits won't let him do it that way. If I Am Legend II looks good I will see it but until then Im still going to be watching the first one.

    Paul Greengrass is not directing. he's already been working on Bourne, and I don't think this is his type of movie. Nonetheless, its all a bunch of rubbish.

    vamp is right, read the book and you will find out that there vampires.. a sequel would be a terrible idea, not to mention the fact that that grenade pretty much ended everything.. prequel was the only thing that made sense, and that didn't make much god damn sense either.. leave the movie as a loner for f*cks sake

    I'm with you Swak, they left a lot out of the book that was good, which sucks.. also that whole "dark seeker love story" thing, that pretty much pissed me off, they don't have emotions so they can't feel love, sadness, anger, etc... I just wasn't a fan of the film's interpretation of the book.

    I agree with err. Unless movieweb puts up a video with Smith actually saying that it will be a sequel I'll consider this a rumor.

    I like his idea for the prequel.

    And honestly, I would like for another GOOD actor (since Smith already did one) to do a movie based on the book's version. Neville's Co-Worker, who was turned into a vampire & constantly coming to his house at night to call out his name, was my favorite part of the book.

    loved that movie, doesnt matter if the cgi was a little bit noticeable. almost made me cry when you know what, Will is an amazing actor, and after such a powerful performance, he is now one of my favorites. If they make a second one it should DEFINATELY be in imax, so much better for an emotinal film, because you dont get *ssholes talking ffs, and you can get so into it. I don't care how they do it, but Smith should return in my opinion
