The story is adapted from the Lloyd Jones novel which centers on Mr. Watts (Hugh Laurie), the last white man left in the embattled town of Bougainville, which sits on the island of Papua New Guinea. He opens a school in town, where he reads his favorite novel Charles Dickens' Great Expectations to the children. The book mirrors the troubled lives of the children, and Mr. Watts forms a bond with the young students.
Andrew Adamson will direct from his own adapted screenplay. Andrew Adamson is also producing along with Leslie Urdang, Dean Vanech, and Robin Scholes.
Production will start next month in New Zealand.
