Hugh Jackman Gives an Update on Wolverine 2

MTV caught up with actor Hugh Jackman on the red carpet for the Teen Choice Awards last night, and he confirmed that they are indeed hard at work on Wolverine 2. The biggest bit of news to come from this is a confirmation that Wolverine will definitely be heading to Japan in the sequel.

This proposed follow-up to the massively successful origin story will closely follow the fan favorite story arc from Frank Miller and Chris Claremont, which finds everyone's favorite mutant heading East, where he learns Eastern philosophy and a new set of fighting skills. Jackman stated, "Japan is where we're heading. We're starting to work on it now. We're in the first steps of developing that story." About the Miller and Claremont story arc, Hugh said, "I think the fans love that saga. It's my favorite saga of the Wolverine stories. That's a movie I've longed to make from the beginning, so that's where we're heading."

The sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine does not yet have a confirmed release date.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released May 1st, 2009 and stars Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Will i Am, Lynn Collins, Kevin Durand, Dominic Monaghan, Taylor Kitsch. The film is directed by Gavin Hood.

Doesn't matter. I know what you're saying Fallen, but just the fact that they were there is what is a nod to the comics. Yes we as comic book fans may want to see characters from the books and cartoons done justice in live-action but it won't always happen. In fact, it rarely ever happens. I know they were an old couple but like I said they were there, they were the first people he runs into, they took care of him. I think their roles were simplified but handled well with the material of the film.

But CBF they weren't done justice in the film at all.

Newkill the old couple in the movie were James and Heather Hudson. I know you're gonna be like "who the f*ck are they and who f*ckin cares?" but let me just answer you about why they were in the movie. In the comics and cartoon shows, the first people Wolverine meets after he escapes from Project Weapon X are the Hudsons. They were part of the Canadian government's Department H team, Alpha Flight. Their alter egos in Alpha Flight are Guardian and Vindicator. They look after Logan and take care of him for a short while, and he joins Alpha Flight for that time being. In the 90s cartoon, when he takes off from Alpha Flight is when he dons the costume and says, "I aint Logan no more. Now you can call me... Wolverine." These characters also return in "Hulk vs. Wolverine." Soon after Logan leaves Alpha Flight is when he joins the X-Men.

Throwing these two characters in the movie are an homage to these events and a BIG nod to comic fans everywhere. Yes, they are an old couple on a farm reminiscent of Ma and Pa Kent but what are ya gonna do? At least the movie kept the story that the Hudsons are the first people Logan meets after escaping and that they take care of him, bringing him back to his human side vs. his animal side.

Hope that explained it for you.

    Newkill got it down.

And artkid04 said it perfectly. Get a director that can face the studios and not give in to their "quick money making plans". We need a director devoted to the mythology, willing to say F*CK YOU to some of the corporate people. But for that, they need a big director or a producer/actor with power. So yeah... If Hugh cares so much for the character he'd use his star power to change things for the better.

I agree with you newkill. But I really like the fight scene in the bar/barn where Sabretooth f*cks up Wolverine lol.

The X-Men series gave Wolverine claws that looked real. Gavin Hood shows us CGI that is very obvious when he is the bathroom examining what happened to him.

Wolverine's knives were so astonishingly fake looking. There was no point to bring in Prof. X. Amnesia bullets is the dumbest concept for Logan losing his memory. Why the f*ck was Superman parents in this film? Will someone tell me. Why did this movie have constant yelling in the air, like Noooooooo! They explain the origin of Wolverine in the most clumsy way. There was nothing memorable about the action scenes. this movie made the Wolverine character less compelling. I don't really have a problem with how the producers and directors mangled the screenplay and mythology of Wolverine, just make it interesting.

better director (aka one that can face the studio) and less studio involvement, thats what made the last two so-so productions

If they stick to Millers (which knowing Fox they will f*ck some things up) and it will be decent. Change the director, o maybe not, but change the writer, and the crew (cuz it looked like it was made by college kids who still jack off) and make Wolverine bad ass. I pictured the first to have a great huge hunt in the woods for him, but never ever got it. Hopefully this time they will have something like that.

THIS WILL BE SOFT AS SH*TE !!.the studio just won't let them make an R rated film it needs to be.they want to squeeze as much money out of it as possible at the expence of the true nature of the character. Wolverine needs to be brutal and violent with a good story!......and some decent effects please

Don't compare year one to the Frank Miller Wolverine arc. One is resolutely a graphic novel and the other is a long-running stint. They will not adapt the same way.

Also, Wolverine was more of a p*ssy in his own movie than in either of the first two X-Men films. What gives?

Lock and Stock, I don't care if you liked it, good for you, but it was NOT GOOD. It was a sh*tty attempt by a sh*tty studio to keep their grubby, uncaring hands on a dying franchise. And it blew balls.

  16. Lock and Stock

To everyone complaining about the first, it was very good, it could have been better but it was still alright. I understand why they added characters from other arcs to his origin because making the Origin novel into film would have been an R at best, so they had to create theyre own arc to write apon. As for the sequel it will be bad ass because they are basing it on the Frank Miller story arc. Remember Batman Begins was based on Year One also by Miller, so expect this one to have that kind of darkness, Wolverine up in the hills and training just visualize it. I'm sure if you visualize it you can get an image of how great it will turn out.

lmao Newkill, I just used Steven Seagal's name in reference to bad films in another topic hahaha. Funny stuff.

And to what you said, which kinda confused me since you acted like I said no one here is going to watch it lol I was just saying that people saying they aren't going to watch a sequel but honestly, when it comes out, they will ya know.

SvnUpnoEVEN, who are you talking to lol? I'm pretty sure no one is humping their Wolverine dvd-r copy lol

All they need to do is fix the character flaws and that's it. Other than that, the movie was fine.

i just hope they can stick to the comic book any director who does that the movie is a guaranteed success but fox want do it because wolverine was about a c- and this movie being leaked a month early probably cost it about 50 million dollars so many of my friends watched the garbage version on line and didn't come to theatre to watch it

ok first of all this movie was not massively successul. did you see what opened the following three weeks in theaters and kicked ths hit out of it. im sorry i have not seen this movie, i have only seen parts of the version that was leaked and i wanted to vomit. i know thats my opinion and there were those brainwashed people who loved this flick, only because you agree with everything that hollywood says and do not care about story, acting, directing, or even character back stories. i have grown up with comics my whole life and am still an active collector of comics, this movie was a huge let down. when every movie has to be dumbed down and filled with flashy special effects to get people to see it, is it really a good movie? i do not agree with a sequel and will continue to not support the wolverine solo movies due to the fact that fox can not make a good a super hero movie and the story was completly butchered!!

Wolverine sequel doesn't sound bad at all. I figured this would happen if it is to lead to the events of X-MEN. I'm just waiting for the Gambit and Deadpool spin-offs.

Chad, just because they people who hated Wolverine doesn't mean that they wouldn't go see the sequel. There are many movie franchise that have had bad originals but sometimes when they do a sequel to it sometimes it improves and sometimes it doesn't. I disliked the first X men film, but when the second one came around, I went to see it and enjoyed it, and i still disliked the sequel. This Wolverine movie just sucked ass. It was almost like a bad steven seagal movie.
