We know that Mad Men star John Slattery will appear in this weekend's Iron Man 2 as Howard Stark, the industrialist father of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark and now it seems the character could turn up in another Marvel film. MTV Splash Page spoke with Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau who revealed that Howard Stark would also appear in next year's Captain America: The First Avenger. Here's an excerpt from the site's article.

"Yeah, because he was around then," confirmed Favreau.

"[Captain America: The First Avenger] is World War II," he explained. "It wouldn't be that same actor, probably, because he would be much younger."

Elaborating on the elder Stark's role, Favreau said the industrialist will play a role not unlike another famous businessman from the real world.

"[Howard Stark] was starting out during that time, and [he] was involved with the war effort, much like Howard Hughes," said the filmmaker.

While the news hasn't been confirmed by the studio as of yet, we'll be sure to keep you posted on any further details regarding Captain America: The First Avenger as soon as we have more information.

Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

Why not Jon Hamm? He would be great for this role. Also, I imagine that Howard Stark will be the one who creates Captain America's shield. The small tease in Iron Man 2 hinted at the Stark Corp.'s involvement in that technology pretty strongly.

EYE ON THE ANTICIPATION, AVENGERS- Yeah that's awesome that Marvel is connecting these movies together, that's modern epic, I love it! That's also interesting that they decided to release Iron Man 2 everywhere else but The U.S., yeah only a World Cup can make such a big movie be released early everywhere... I maybe a minority but I'll make time between games to see Iron Man 2, not everyone here in the States ignores soccer, certainly not me! Captain America would be proud! I'm cheering United States to get far this year! The Cup only comes once every 4 year! Stars & Stripes!

  10. The Narrator: The Better Man

@Jimthar, wrong on both comments. Lol. they just said above that a younger actor would play the role because he'd be younger. So that crosses off Walken and John Slattery, which I thought was a good casting choice once I saw the film.

I love how thier putting all these guys together this is gonna change everything when it comes to certain comic books films being put into the same universe hopefully DC will learn something i would totally love if later on in this universe when Steve Rogers and Ironman meet they have that little line" hey i new your father" that would just be perfect.

wow this is unreal. i just saw IM2 - i thought Jon and cast did a hell of a job. The tie ins they do are unreal. I honestly don't know how DC will be able to do this for JLA as well as Marvel has for the Avengers.
