We first reported on this project back in December 2009, although we haven't heard anything since then. The story centers on Mel Gibson's character, a lifelong criminal who is sent to a Mexican prison. He learns how to survive in the drug-infested jail with the help of a nine-year-old boy. Mel Gibson also co-wrote the screenplay with director Adrian Grunberg and Stacy Perskie.
It isn't known if the project has been picked up for stateside distribution at this time.
Get the Gringo was released May 1st, 2012 and stars Mel Gibson, Peter Stormare, Dean Norris, Bob Gunton, Scott Cohen, Patrick Bauchau, Kevin Hernandez, Stephanie Lemelin. The film is directed by Adrian Grunberg.

Kick ass poster for a kick ass movie.
I cant wait to go see it!
Apocalypto didnt have a single known actor in it, but it was fantastic and was a super succes.
Mel Gibson is just the best actor and movie director ever, and all know that he taught Robert Downey Jr how to act as he does now, as well as get him off the drugg and booze.
I dont see why Mel Gibson should be forgiven, since he hasnt done anything wrong to anybody of the public, nor in Hollywood, nor the media, in his life, as for his wife Robyn, I am pretty sure that she forgave him his trespassing a long time ago, and has therefor nothing to be forgiven about.
Dont believe all the crap you read on tabloids and on zero-research medias, its all crap.
The fact remain that he was screwed by a corrupted justice system and a very corrupted DA, trying to save his own protégé-attorney's skin, as sentencing the russian chick will have got his protégé disbarred, as Attorney Eric Georges was higly involved in the extortion of Mel Gibson.
One thing all hollywood, and most of the hatefull public, and the media could do tho, will be to give Mel Gibson a deeply heartfelt apology for all the wrong they did him, totaly uncall for, and for harrassing him and cyber bullying him for so damn long.
He should sue them, and get the anti defamation league chairman Foxman kick out his chair or get him to defend Mel Gibson from all the outrage and defamation he has been subjected to since he made the Passion.
They kicked Charlie Chaplin out of hollywood and out of USA too.
Remember..
I will go watch his superbe movies anytime.

I really don't give a s*** about his personal life off the camara, if this movie looks good (which I can't tell yet) then I'll give it a shot.

@pjwolsker - Yeah, unfortunately......but hopefully not for too much longer. I dont know if you saw or heard about it....but Robert Downey Jr. gave a nice speech at an award ceremony that was dedicated to him. Mel Gibson, a long time friend, was there to present the award and when RDJ gave his speech, he said that "it is time that we forgave Mel Gibson for what he has done and allow him to get back to work".
Super classy move on RDJ part.....and hopefully it will open the eyes of some and allow people to start to forgive him.....or dont forgive him, I dont care, but at least allow him to get back to making good films.
@2movieguys - Oh, give me a break. Really? You are one of those people who are still holding a grudge? Regardless of what you may think of Mel Gibson as a person (I honestly couldn't care less one way or the other), you have to admit.....he's a phenomenal filmmaker.

@cupid IMO In today's world of drugs and wars in those types of areas, a nine year old boy will know more about it and how to survive than an adult.

@pjwolsker - I disagree about the comparison with Edge of Darkness. It had Danny Huston AND Ray Winstone co-starring, both of whom are pretty big names. We aren't talking about someone who's been a co-star on one television episode.....you know what I'm saying?
Plus, Edge of Darkness was directed by Martin Campell.......the guy friggin directed Casino Royal, Goldeneye, Green Lantern, Zorro and Vertical Limit (the 2 former are much better than the 3 latter, thats for sure....but he had experience).
This guy has never directed anything before. Not that there is anything wrong with that, everyone needs to start out somewhere. However, most indie-film, first timers start out with smaller actors in them and then get good actors once they have proven themselves worthy.
Point being, it sounds like Mel is taking this for a paycheck.....nothing else.
Lets be honest, had anyone on this site heard of "How I Spent my Summer Vacation" before today???? Probably not.....and thats not a very good sign.

I'm excited.
@k-man My opinion, after all that crap with the media, it makes it hard for high profile actors to get good work. Iunno, but I'll take anything with Mel in it or behind it just to see more of him and his work

@k-man and we have seen a lot of these actors too before.. but just in little stuff... like the DEA brother in law from breaking bad is in this... its like Edge of Darkness... he didnt have to many famous people in the movie but i thought it was still good

@k-man agreed... but i will have to disagree with you about one thing... Mel Gibson cant be really compared to Val Kilmer... he's no where near as good an actor as Mel is.. until i see a trailer im not going to judge this movie to much

@pjwolsker - He did with Braveheart and I'd say that one worked out pretty friggin great!
I want the Untitled Viking movie that he was going to make with Leonardo DiCaprio attached (in some form or fashion) back a few years ago before all the issues. He said it was going to be a brutal take on the Vikings. Can you imagine the awesomeness of a "brutal Viking" film by the director of Braveheart, Apocalypto and Passion???
Holy f*ck that would be incredible!
I'd also really, REALLY like to see him direct Here There Be Monsters now that Robert Zemeckis has dropped out. They have a lot of similarities in their style. I think he's the perfect replacement.

@k-man I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this poster's awful. The only thing going for this right now is the fact that the producers of Braveheart and Apocalypto are behind it.

Oh man, just looking at the poster this is already terrible! This is what I was fearing, that after Mel Gibson's "incidences" with the law/media that he would, essentially, become the next "Val Kilmer", where he is forced to take on roles that he is way too talented to be taking on, in movies that are guaranteed to suck.
I was actually thinking to myself the other day what a shame it is that Mel Gibson's talent, both in front of and behind the camera, is being wasted. Having re-watched Braveheart (which is tied for my second all time favorite film), Apocalypto and Passion recently......I had forgot just how brilliant of a director Mel really is. He's absolutely phenomenal as an actor as well, but I think he's equally talented, if not more so, behind the camera!
Point being, before Mel continues to make more films like this, with an entire cast you have never heard of and a director whose first film it is (with the film most liking going straight to DVD/Blu-Ray).......essentially ruining his career even more so.........people in Hollywood need to forgive him for his wrongdoing and allow him to continue making quality films (something we are seeing less and less of these days).
