Hoodwinked Takes the Top of the Box Office

According to The Hollywood Reporter, in a close race with Buena Vista's Glory Road, the Weinstein Co.'s Hoodwinked, caught the industry by surprise and took a shortcut to the top spot at the boxoffice during the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. The PG-rated Hoodwinked, the distributor's first foray into CGI-animated family films, found an estimated $16.6 million in its boxoffice basket, and Glory Road ran a close second with $16.5 million. Heading into the holiday weekend, Hoodwinked was not high in prerelease tracking, but films that appeal to very young moviegoers are notoriously difficult to project.

Paramount's Last Holiday, a comedy staring Queen Latifah and helmed by Wayne Wang, debuted in the third spot with an estimated $15.7 million. Among the weekend's openers, Holiday was the front-runner heading into the session.

Glory Road was released January 13th, 2006 and stars Josh Lucas, Derek Luke, Austin Nichols, Jon Voight, Evan Jones, Schin A.S. Kerr, Alphonso McAuley, Mehcad Brooks. The film is directed by James Gartner.
