Hitman 2, Kane & Lynch and Just Cause Movie Updates

Game Daily has posted an interview with film producer Adrian Askarieh about his slate of films based on video games such as a sequel to the 2007 film which he produced, Hitman, Kane & Lynch and Just Cause.

As far as Kane & Lynch go, the producer confirmed the news from this summer that Bruce Willis would play Kane and revealed they are currently seeking their Lynch.

Kane & Lynch will start filming in March of 2010. Bruce Willis will star as Kane, and we're about to start casting Lynch. Lionsgate is the distributor, Millennium is financing and the movie, after two and a half years of false starts, is finally going into production.

Askarieh revealed that Kyle Ward has been hired to write the sequel to Hitman, but it wasn't quite clear if they'd get Timothy Olyphant back, due to his new FX TV series Lawman.

When it comes to Hitman 2, Tim Olyphant is working on a new TV show, so are you going to get a new Hitman in terms of the actor?

We haven't discussed that. We and the studio are all waiting for the script to come in to make some very big decisions, but we'd love to have Tim if he wants to do the movie. We'd love to have him back.

Because he has to shave his head for this role, that impacts things that he does after you wrap Hitman 2, correct?

I agree. That's a big factor for him because he's got a TV show, and it's just a matter of the timing. We'd love to have him back if he wants to do it, but we haven't gotten to that point. We'll probably do Hitman sometime middle of next year, but right now we're just waiting for the script to come in.

The film that Askarieh is currently working on, Just Cause, is being financed independently, on the heels of the video game sequel to be released next year.

I'm doing Just Cause right now, which I'm doing independently. I think Just Cause is going to blow up as a franchise this February with Just Cause 2. It became the de-facto hit of E3, so the reason I went after it and I got it is because I saw a movie in it, not because it was going to be a hot video game. That helps. Don't get me wrong. We live in an era of brands and easily marketable ideas and high-concept materials such as comic books and video games. But Just Cause is a great action-adventure spy movie, which is a totally different motif than Hitman. Hitman is a great assassin movie, Kane & Lynch is a great buddy action movie. So all these are first-and-foremost good movie ideas, then video games.

Hitman was released November 21st, 2007 and stars Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott, Olga Kurylenko, Robert Knepper, Ulrich Thomsen, Henry Ian Cusick, Michael Offei, Christian Erickson. The film is directed by Xavier Gens.

I remember a film being called Just Cause, Laurence Fishborn was in it.
K&L would be great if handled right, Bioshock I just beat would be an awesome film.
I thought HM2 bombed, so why make a second. I thought that Agent 47 was in his late forties.

thats partly wut i was trying to say, is that games like Prince of Persia, Uncharted and Infamous are bein treated very well and faithfully to the games, which means that hopefully they'll be good movies and at least successful at the box office. Max Payne sucked and didn't do that well either. Resident Evil was terrible, all three of them. there hasn't been a good video game movie yet, and i'm saying these three in the article aren't goin to change that, Prince of Persia will be good i think cuz it has a good studios making it, and talented ppl involved. K&L and JC don't have those things, so they will be move of the same. might as well get Uwe Boll to direct them.

CB, I agree Michael Mann would be terrific to direct this. The only reason why I say that is because the game rips off one of Mann's films, which is Heat.

BD, I would rather see a great game adaptation that tanks in the box office than see one that's a horrible movie that insults it's fans and performs well at the box office, Max Payne and Resident Evil Extinction for example of terrible movies but brought in a good amount of money. I like Mickey but I haven't seen Madsen play a bad ass in while, because he wasn't sh*t as Bud in Kill Bill. Then again, I haven't seen Rourke play a bad ass in while either.

here's an idea lets turn really cool money makeing games into movie adaptations you know what I WOULD RATHER SEE THAT DONE THEN F*CKING REMAKES!

just throwing this in there, if Madsen can do it Mickey Rourke can do it better.

seriously, sorry to those who do like the games, but K&L and JC are just not big enough games. they r gunna tank when made into movies. the really big games that need to be made into movies r Uncharted (which is happening), Assisin's Creed (ditto) Bioshock (idk anymore) Halo, Gears and God of War. and i'm not biased cuz i don't play Assasin's Creed or Bioshock, but i just know from all the buzz about them that they r crazy good games and deserve movies.

plus GameInformer just had an article bout this. games like Prince of Persia, Uncharted and Infamous are getting really good talent behind them the same way that comic book movies has recently done. these three in the article rn't goin to have Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer behind them, they r goin to have lil to no name directors and bottom of the barrel actors (aside from Willis). they r goin to fall into the Max Payne (i don't count Walberg as bottom of the barely either but w/e), Doom, Mario Brothers and Dead or Alive category of video games made to movies, they won't be good.

Yea J.A. that's what I was thinking. Right after I posted my comment, I was saying,"Crap, Tarantino would do a good job, too." I just don't agree with you with Rodriguez.
Newkill, I realize it's not a fan based game, but most nerds know what it is, and all I'm saying is that it could be a great movie. Just think if Michael Mann did it. The shootout/chase sequence in the begining of the game when they escape the police transport would be amazing considering Heat had that epic cops vs. robbers battle in the streets.
I'm sure there can be more depth found the story, as well.

As addicted I am to Uncharted 2, it's a rif on Indiana Jones meets Tomb Raider. Wouldn't go so well. Also, since it takes place in the now era, it would seem like National Treasure, which I hate, but hey if they would make a movie, I'd go see it.

CB, Kane & Lynch isn't one of those well known fan based games, so there really isn't potential in it at all. It's basically just a two player, arcade like, shooter/tactical action game. Nothing special about the story.

Hmmmm interesting call there CBJunior, i always thought Quentin Tarantino or Rodriguez for Kane & Lynch.

But Mann could definately work as well

Kane & Lynch has the only real potential here. It could be a masterpiece if pulled off right. But it won't, because these things never do. They always get massively screwed up.
I always thought of Willis being Kane and Thornton being Lynch, so let's hope that works out.
Also, the only person I can see making this good is Michael Mann, but only if he does whatever he did to make Heat so outstanding.

Right first off, Hitman 1 was a massive flop, why even make a sequel, Just Cause just don't see it happening.

Kane & Lynch...Well obviously the film needs Bruce Willis as Kane, and yeah Billy Bob Thornton as Lynch, Ken Watabe as Retomoto, plz as well.
Oh and this has to be rated like a proper R.

Now how about we get a Uncharted Film & Assassin's Creed...

  12. Frenzy2001

Michael Madsen would be great. Good call Newkill. Now all that has to be done is convincing the the studio and Madsen to do it.

Billy Bob Thornton for Lynch. It would be like a non sequel type thing for Bandits.

  15. kingbrady

Kaner & Lynch was not a great game but Bruce can pull off Kane to a tee, as for Lynch, secret, quiet long haired guy being billy bob ??? i dunno this isnt that bank robbing movie they both did lol

hitman 2 is obviously gonna have a female they cant do an assassin movie without a hot ass chick being in danger

Billy Bob Thornton should play Lynch. I have no interest in Just Cause but Hitman two would be alright.
