Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intruders) is in early discussions to direct Summit Entertainment's remake Highlander.

Fast Five director Justin Lin was previously set for the project, although we reported last month he bowed out of the remake due to his burgeoning development slate which includes Terminator 5 and Fast & Furious 6.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct from a screenplay by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), which was recently polished by Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight). Neal H. Moritz and Peter S. Davis will produce.

It isn't clear when production on Highlander will begin. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's latest movie, Intruders, premieres today at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Highlander comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Ryan Reynolds. The film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

I agree with Dan! Highlander is one of my favorite movies! Sean Connery, Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown! Awesome music by QUEEN! Great directing by Russell Mulcahey! No need for a "remake" or "reimagining"! Leave it alone.

You know, I'm quite happy with the original. It was a creature of the 80's, had an awesome soundtrack, and remains rewatchable. I'll continue to maintain this is unneeded, and prob skip it at least in theaters on principle.
