High Schools to Receive Free Copies of An Inconvenient Truth for Earth Day
Directed by Davis Guggenheim, the critically-acclaimed documentary based on former Vice President Al Gore's presentation on global warming won this year's Oscar for Best Documentary, Features and Best Original Song for Melissa Etheridge's "I Need To Wake Up." It is the first documentary ever to win two Academy Awards.
"Even though I have been a life-long movie fan, I didn't really understand how big of an audience a movie could reach," said former Vice President Al Gore. "As humbling as this moment is, the global warning from An Inconvenient Truth will only succeed if it drives all of us to take action and I'm thrilled that Paramount continues to support the effort to urge as many people as possible to become a part of the solution to our climate crisis."
An Inconvenient Truth was the best-selling documentary DVD of 2006 and continues to fascinate and inspire audiences with its passionate call to action. The film eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Al Gore's personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change.
"Al Gore is a remarkable example of one person's ability to make a difference," said Davis Guggenheim, director of An Inconvenient Truth. "Paramount is giving people everywhere the chance to make a difference through its donations on Earth Day that will help continue to raise awareness of this urgent issue."
The DVDs will be donated to high schools on a first come, first serve basis in the respective country where the retail sale occurred. In order for high schools to qualify for a free DVD, an authorized representative of the high school must register by going to www.paramount.com/aitschools and following the instructions provided. Not every high school that registers is guaranteed a free DVD.
The An Inconvenient Truth DVD is packaged with no excess materials, so as to make the smallest environmental footprint possible.
