Hide and Seek finds first place at boxoffice

According to The Hollywood Reporter, During an unusually strong weekend at the boxoffice in North America, 20th Century Fox's Hide and Seek, an R-rated psychological thriller starring Robert De Niro and Dakota Fanning, easily found the top spot with a sterling debut of about $22 million. Sony's PG-rated family comedy Are We There Yet? starring Ice Cube -- the previous weekend's boxoffice champ -- parked in second with about $17 million, slipping a minuscule 8% from its debut. The 10-day cume is an estimated $39.1 million.

And after picking up seven Oscar nominations, including best picture, Warner Bros. Pictures' third-place Million Dollar Baby knocked out about $11.8 million during its first weekend of wide release in 2,010 theaters, up 1,863 from a week ago. The Clint Eastwood-directed drama, which picked up the DGA Award for best director on Saturday, averaged $5,871 per theater and has grossed $21.1 million to date.
