Headshot Producer Joel Silver Fires Thomas Jane Because He's White?

Thomas Jane loses Headshot?
Thomas Jane loses Headshot?
It was announced last moth that Sylvester Stallone and director Walter Hill had handpicked actor Thomas Jane to co-star in the upcoming action thriller Headshot, which finds a cop teaming up with an assassin to take down a shared enemy. But that was before the film landed at producer Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment.

Reports are suggesting that Joel Silver is actively looking to fire Thomas Jane because he is white. That's right. Even though Sylvester Stallone and Walter Hill want Thomas Jane on the project, Joel Silver thinks that the script would be better suited, and should be changed so that it resembles the white guy/black guy buddy formula that was so successful in his previous movies Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout.

This is what Thomas Jane had to say about the decision.

""No comment, but I can tell you this, we have a classic with me & Sly & Hill. Script is tailor made for us all."

Joel Silver is looking for other potential actors to take over for Thomas Jane, but none of those names have been released. According to sources close to Headshot, Thomas Jane hasn't walked yet. He is officially signed on, so there will be some negotiating before he leaves the project. It is unclear when the movie will start production.

Bullet to the Head was released February 1st, 2013 and stars Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang, Sarah Shahi, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jason Momoa, Christian Slater, Jon Seda, Holt McCallany. The film is directed by Walter Hill.

Notice how Alan rephrases the story to sound like he was fired simply because he was white, when it was actually cuz Silver pictures this as a white/black buddy comedy. Phrasing it that way gives it a negative connatation.

I love a lot of the movies Joel Silver has produced over the years, but if I want to see LETHAL WEAPON again I'll just play the dvd. The irony is that real reason *that* movie was so great wasn't because audiences loved seeing white and black partners working together. It was due to a different black, Shane Black, who wrote the ridiculously entertaining script.

Yes but producers usually call the shots.

@messenger I understand what your saying, but this was originally Sly & Hill's movie and they both really wanted Thomas Jane, Joel Silver just happens to be the guy who's suppose to produce.

    @cheetoboy

Do you know how many people are fired from movies all the time and replaced with someone else? How do you think Michael J. Fox got the role for Back to the Future or how Ray Park became Darth Maul both were replacements for someone else and in BTF they had already shot some scene with the original actor. I hate letting people go on my short films but when it gets down to it it's about the story you are trying to tell and if you think someone else can do it better you go with them.

I kind of agree with @messenger, but still Joel just needs to use the idea for another film and let Thomas keep his job, I mean you can't just up and fire the man.

Oh, and this gives new meaning to "coloring correcting" a film.

OK, wait a second...from the story, I was thinking that Joel Silver was a different race other than white but he IS a white guy so really, in a way, this isn't racism.

    rac&#183ism
    /&#712re&#618s&#618z&#601m/ Show Spelled[rey-siz-uhm] Show IPA
    -noun
    1.
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
    2.
a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
    3.
hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

This issue here sounds nothing like any of the definitions above. Especially since it is coming from another white man. I find this kinda silly because so what if he's white or black or asian. If someone thinks that the role is better suited from someone else then so be it. This isn't hatred, this sounds like someone who wants to get the movie correct for their own vision. People get WAY to upset over the dumbest sh*t now a days. This is not racism folks, if you want that, go back to beginning of the 1900s and so on.

I'm a fan of most of the films Joel has produced(The Matrix trilogy, the first 2 any way, all the Lethal Weapons), but he should still keep Thomas and use the black/white buddy cop idea for another flick, if not Sly & them should just leave.

Silver has his moments but he is hit or miss at best. But when he hits it, he hits em out of the park and when he misses....well just look at Ghost Ship and Dungeons & Dragons.

Yeah but producers generally have the say so because they get the money for the film.

Your right @bane3000 & @superman81, Sly, Thomas, & Hill just go to another company, I'm sure there's plenty of other people out there who would like to work with them, I mean yeah the whole black/white buddy cop thing maybe fun, but like I said you can't just just fire him like that especially after he was already attached to star, I have feeling Thomas will still continue on with the movie though, with Silver or NOT.

What decade is Silver living in thinking the white/black buddy comedy is something people are in anticipation to still wanna see, if Sly and the director say they want Jane then so be it, im sure there others in movie land who would want to produce this besides Silver...

  29. Cheetoboy

Off course I don't think Joel Silver is a racist @jonquest, but regardless I think Thomas Jane & Slyvestor Stallone would be a good action combination together, if the movie ends up looking good it'll do well in the box-office regardless, He can't just take that man's job because of it. He is already signed on, plus Joel wants to do that in another movie that would be fine, but still Thomas has already signed, this is suppose to be his role. Well in my opinion hopefully Sly & Hill can still be able to convince Joel to keep Thomas.
