Hayden Christensen is on board for the lead role in director David R. Ellis' upcoming thriller The Genesis Code, based on the novel by the same name written by John Case. The film's screenplay is written by Kevin Bernhardt. Myriad Pictures, who will co-produce the film, owns all rights worldwide, will be selling the film at the upcoming Marche du Film in Cannes.

The producers are Tove Christensen, Myriad's CEO and President Kirk D'Amico, Michael Mailer and Alvaro Longoria.

The story follows a former national security expert, played by Christensen, who, while investigating the murder of his only sister and her young son, discovers that a religious sect called The Shadow of the Cross may be involved. With the help of his sister's friend Ana, they follow the clues to a clinic in the mountains of Italy, where a terrifying secret experiment has been conducted - successfully. The results are so threatening to the foundation of the Church that they will do anything to keep it from being revealed.

"We are very pleased to have Hayden on board for this project," said D'Amico. "His passion for the character of Joe Lassiter and the world he inhabits - of religion, politics and secret operatives - was apparent to all of us involved in the project. It is this kind of commitment that we know will lead to a compelling performance."

Hayden Christensen will next be seen starring in John Luessenhop's Takers opposite Matt Dillon and Zoe Saldana and Brad Anderson's Vanishing on 7th Street opposite Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo. Hayden is involved with the (RED) campaign and recently shot a PSA for them that also features Bono, Javier Bardem, Don Cheadle, Penélope Cruz, Claire Danes, Hugh Jackman, Julianne Moore, Gabourey Sidibe, Gwen Stefani, The Jonas Brothers, among others.

Director David R. Ellis started his career as a stuntman and moved into directing, where he served as 2nd unit director on Harrison Ford's Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. His directing credits include Final Destination 2, Cellular, starring Kim Basinger and Jessica Biel, Asylum, with Sarah Roemer, Snakes on a Plane with Samuel L. Jackson and The Final Destination in 3-D, which occupied the number one spot at the box office when it was released last year.

Kevin Bernhardt wrote the screenplay to the crime-drama The Immortals starring Eric Roberts and Joe Pantoliano and the Tom Berenger thriller Fear of Flying. He wrote the adventure El Americano which will be directed by Amy Redford and Elephant White, which will star Kevin Bacon. He also wrote the screenplay for Peaceful Warrior.

The Genesis Code was released February 18th, 2011 and stars Logan Bartholomew, Kelsey Sanders, C.R. Lewis, Ernest Borgnine, Louise Fletcher, Fred Dalton Thompson, Lance Henriksen, Rance Howard. The film is directed by C. Thomas Howell, Patrick Read Johnson.

I like Hayden and his films and make no apologies for that. He is obviously liked by many many people than not. His films make money and he is a fine actor. I'm glad to see him doing idie films and will check this one out as well.

For the record I also love the prequels they gave me a love for star wars. ATOC is my favorite.
The Jealous fan boys need to get over it.

Rstars, if you think the Star Wars movies made a lot of money because of Hayden, you're tokin' too hard. He sucked as much as Samuel Jackson did as Mace Windoo (what a dumb ass name). Hayden's performance was laughably bad. Especially when he said this nausiating line. "I'm haunted by the kiss that you never should have given me" in (the sh*tily titled) Attack of the Clones. If it was another studio, not owned by Lucas, somebody surely would have asked upon reading that line, "Are you smoking crack?"

By the way, the last three/newer Star Wars movies were sh*t to begin with. They were written by a guy who can't contribute anything to a movie unless it involves aliens.

Granted that he can act a little but not necessarily a great actor. Actually he didn't like the center of attention when he was doing the two Star Wars films, he's not totally believable.Besides I've seen in other projects and I find that he's a whiner, just listen to his voice in any of his films and you can tell that he's whining most of the time.
No I don't hate him, I just want him to take a six week acting class as most actors have to. He needs to get better , until then he needs to lay low in tv land or he might be better in TV films or series.
Not all actors can do film acting.

I think you are all wrong that Christensen is a bad actor. Star wars was Very Successful mainly because of him. Of course you have your opinion of his acting but that doesn't mean most people will agree with you guys. As regards this movie: I Won't be going to see it. A theme where a child is killed is just too much in a movie that is based on something that isn't real. They rarely had movies like that in the past!

Haven't heard from him in ages (ever since star wars). Oh wait I know where he's been. Acting in sh*tty movies....

First off, is this the book and author that Dan Brown allegedly stole from? They sound awfully similar. As for Christensen, no amount of good acting will ever make up for the travesty that was his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker. To be honest, I'm surprised people still want him to headline films.

my only question is why Christensen. He is a terrible actor, and I don't say that lightly. If it weren't for him the last two star wars films would have been far better (love all six, but Christensen really was just awful) he also ruined Jumper which despite some flaws might have been good had he not been the protagonist. Honestly just because someone was in a movie or series of movies that made a lot of money does not make them a good actor.

  11. Madame X

The Genesis Code is a 1997 novel while Dan Browns novels (Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code) came out in 2000 and 2003. Sounds like it could be even more controversial than Da Vinci Code but that movie was able to weather the storm because of high profile involvement like Ron Howard and a Tom Hanks.

The director: lame. Only movie he directed that I cared for was Cellular, due to Evans. Second Unit Director doesn't count.

As for Christensen, well he is definitely a hit and miss.

Then there's the story, which seems like a rather awkward attempt at mimicking the Da Vinci Code (also a pretty lame movie/book) with a different style? At least seemingly.

So overall, this is pretty much a no go for this film.
