Has the Superbad Express Been Cleared for Take Off?

A little while back, Seth Rogen mentioned in an interview that he didn't want to do a sequel to his acclaimed comedy Superbad, even though Sony was pushing for one. The actor/writer/creator of all things cool announced that he'd much rather do a Pineapple Express sequel. He then went on to say how he could conceivably combine the two titles, and make one super awesome movie where Seth and Evan, home from college for summer vacation, accidentally bump into Dale and Saul. It sounded like the musings of someone with a lot of ideas on his plate. But not a real planned project. But then, during one of the Pineapple Express screenings at Comic Con 2008, Judd Apatow announced to a packed house that this idea might actually become a reality. Now, MTV Movie Blogs has posted a story with excerpts from a recent James Franco interview, and it seems like everyone is quite keen to the idea.

So, yes, it is very possible that, in the summer of 2010, we will see something called Superbad Express, or Bad Pineapple, or The Further Adventures of Seth, Evan, Saul, and Dale.

In the interview, Franco stated, "Even before Superbad came out, I think the studio was trying to get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to write a sequel, but they really didn't want to write a sequel. I guess the kids would go to college or something like that. An answer to that was to do a Superbad/Pineapple Express crossover, an unprecedented crossover movie with two directors, Greg Motolla and David Gordon Green, each directing half of the movie and somehow these characters get together, which doesn't make sense at all, but could work."

He then went on to explain how the kids would meet Dale and Saul, "I could sell them something, but I think we'd want some action, so you know, somehow the kids get in trouble somehow and we have to get them out of it. And Seth plays characters in both movies, so somehow we'd have to kill one of them off."

As this proposed idea becomes more of a reality, we will certainly let you know. As for now, it's just something being talked about.

Superbad was released August 17th, 2007 and stars Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, Martha MacIsaac, Emma Stone, Aviva. The film is directed by Greg Mottola.

Pineapple Express was released August 6th, 2008 and stars Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride, Kevin Corrigan, Craig Robinson, Gary Cole, Rosie Perez, Ed Begley Jr.. The film is directed by David Gordon Green.

I think you're right Vamp... you ARE the only one that thinks Pineapple is dumb. Sometimes you just gotta live with it.

And AnnoyingFilmCritic.... What I think Moviemaniack is trying to say is that Danny McBride already appears in Pinapple Express so creating a character for him in the Superbad story line is the same as having Rogen appear in the movie as two characters. In other words...

YOUR idea has Danny McBride playing two characters in the proposed "Superbad Express"... which would create the same problem they have now with Seth Rogen having to play two characters.

Uh, Danny McBride is IN Pineapple Express so having him be a replacement cop for a transferred Rogen cop is just as stupid as Seth having both parts.

  19. AnnoyingFilmCritic

    Great idea...would definately see that.

Seth could just play the process server from Pinapple Express and his cop character from Superbad could be transferred to another precinct...leaving the other cop to have a new partner, maybe Danny McBride (from Foot Fist way/Drillbit Taylor/Pineapple Express/as a new character)of the Apatow comedy mob.

dale isn't officer michaels from superbad. Just the same actor. They'll probably have them run into each other or something like that

I would see this. Just as long the whole cast(s) and director(s) do it.
