Apparently all development on the next James Bond flick is dead. They've actually fucked MGM up so much that right now, they've canned development of a new James Bond film.
Daniel Craig was set to return as James Bond. Sam Mendes was on board to direct this project.
Mirror has substantiated this story saying:
But now it has confirmed the movie has been axed - and it could be years before the secret agent with a licence to kill is back on the big screen.
EON Productions, the company behind the film has also supported this report.
"We do not know when development will resume and cannot comment further at this stage."
It seems that if all this is true an announcement of some sort will be made soon. This franchise appears to be too financially lucrative to just die like this. Afterall, the worldwide box office receipts for all the films total over $5 billion dollars.
Skyfall comes to theaters November 9th, 2012 and stars Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Craig, Helen McCrory, Javier Bardem, Tonia Sotiropoulou, Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris. The film is directed by Sam Mendes.

This is annoying. Bond has been a constant to theaters for almost fifty years. The fact that MGM has handled their business so poorly is shocking. Seventy plus years of movies, cartoons, etc. has gone completely to waste.

MGM haven't cancelled Bond, they just ain't taking control over the next one or having any say, that's all...Currently all the production details are being done by EON Productions and when Bond grabs its new home, the film will be ready to automatically green-light into production

If MGM is as bad as they say, then they should sell the franchise to save themselves as they're already on a sinking ship. If they actually give a damn. But the simplest solution would be to NOT make overly budgeted films like QoS and go back to simplicity. That could easily keep the franchise running. It's surprising that QoS even made its money back, given how much they spent on it.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Agreed @AvatarSequel. Weisz being rumored as the main villain and leader of Quantum... was one of the coolest and most intriguing casting choices in years. Totally bummed this isn't happening anytime soon.

sounds pretty bad. but you know, s#1t happens. Casino Royale was great but Quantum was pretty confusing in some parts. overall i think that Daniel Craig was good as Bond and i really liked how they made it more realistic and left out all those gadgets.

That sucks. I was actually fascinated to see Rachel Weisz as a female main villain for a Bond movie.

Thank God!! The new Bond movies have not been "Bond movies" at all!! People say its a good change but, the movies would have been good if the character's name was not james bond. The f*cked up the formula big time!!! Bring back the ol' charming and charismatic BOND!!!!

The Narrator: The Better Man
Sell it to Warner Bros. That's my opinion. That or get the Scotts to take over MGM like they've considered.

i like everyone else hope they figure out some sh*t and get these films made, if thy cant afford to make them FINE sell them to WB or someone that can afford to make them, i don't understand how they can make all this money from the franchise and still be in debt, is the accounting office drunk 24/7 i mean seriously my 8 year old nephew handle's his money better than these guys, all and all get them off the shelf and back into production

Craig said "no" to Thor because he doesn't want to be Bond and a superhero...it's too much. I don't think it was necessarily because he was committed wholeheartedly to the Bond franchise.

The only way that MGM can save themselves is by relying on their profitable franchises, which they could make with borrowed money. With almost guaranteed success, both James Bond and The Hobbit are pretty much all they have left, so shelving these is like putting a gun to their own heads and pulling the trigger.

this sucks. you cant just shelve bond. why doesn't mgm borrow the money for production from another studio, then after the films release pay them back with interest and use the remainder of the profit to handle the debt that it's in that is the cause of all these problems. just a thought. or they may have to sell the rights to bond to another studio.
what i want to know is, what are the broccoli's thinking about this and what are their plans for the immediate future of the series??

Royale was awesome, but Solace fell flat. It could be they have nothing to go by with the bond films yet, and that's the danger of having sequels in Bond films. They work better as single adventures.

tyler perry would make a terrible james bond, in my opinion.

The last two Bond movies(Royale and Solace) have made 1.1 Billion dollars with budgets of only 350 million dollars. If anything MGM should be rushing another sequel to save there asses.

I guess no one is buying their films or anything else for that matter. We might as well start buying their merchandise.
Either that or just re-release the old films until they get back on their feet. I would love to see the old films in the theater again.
