It was confirmed in July that Steve Carell was leaving the hit NBC comedy series The Office after its seventh season. Now, according to E! Online, Harvey Keitel's name has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Michael Scott as the head of Dunder/Mifflin's Scranton branch.

Executive producer Paul Lieberstein, who also plays Toby Flenderson on the show, revealed that Harvey Keitel is in serious contention for the role. Here's an excerpt from the site's article:

"Yes, absolutely," confirms Paul. "He's a real tough guy, but I saw him in Life on Mars and I saw a lot more comedy in his work, just little slivers of it, little things he would do that made me think he's capable of a lot more than what [he's done]."

However, Paul Lieberstein also revealed that he hasn't even spoken to Harvey Keitel about joining the show as a series regular yet:

"I haven't started any talks with his people, but Harvey would do a great job-a very different energy," Paul says. "And we don't want to bring in another Michael, having someone play a very similar character because we have such a high regard for Steve."

Of course, NBC has the final say in the matter of Steve Carell's replacement on The Office. It's likely we won't know for quite some time who that replacement will turn out to be. Especially since Harvey Keitel is just one of the many names that have already come up in terms of a new boss at Dunder/Mifflin.

We'll continue to keep you posted with any further details on The Office and who may or may not replace Steve Carell as soon as we have more information.

Even Petersen leaving CSI...sure, Fishburne was a worthy replacement, but I haven't watched or heard anything about the show in some time.

It's better to cancel when the leading star of the show leaves. Look at Spin City after Fox left...Scrubs after Braff left. It wasn't the same, and both shows suffered for it. Better to end it with a bang than try to force more material out of it.

cancel it? why do that? if they can get Darby on that show to take over as district manager, it will be funnier as long as people dont get hung up on the "i wish steve woulda stayed" nonsense

Seven seasons is great. There is no reason to go on after Carrell leaves. It shows a certain desperation of NBC, as if the network lacks confidence that it will be able to successfully replace the show. And that is ridiculous, considering that they have been able to produce 30 Rock, Community, and Parks & Recreation over the last few years. Bite the bullet, NBC, and produce a new show instead of trying to squeeze out more juice from this great show. Let Carrell ride into the sunset and take The Office with him.
