Two Harry Potter movies being converted for 3D Blu-ray
We reported last week that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I will not be converted to 3D in time for its theatrical release date. Today, Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. and their DVD division, Warner Home Video, will instead focus on converting two previous Potter movies, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for 3D Blu-ray.

Work has already started on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at Prime Focus London, with the company's Hollywood and India facilities chipping in as well. Prime Focus was the company behind the rushed 3D conversion of Warner Bros.' Clash of the Titans, although it was said that they are taking their time with these new Potter conversions.

Although work has been halted on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I, it is said that they could complete the conversion at a later date for 3D Blu-ray. It wasn't clear when these movies would be released on 3D Blu-ray, and Warner Bros. wouldn't say if these conversions could lead to theatrical 3D re-releases.

Director David Yates is currently in post-production on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II. He will not focus on the 3D BD titles until sometime in 2011. However, it was said that the Prime Focus process is flexible enough to allow the director to view certain shots during the 3D conversion process.

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 3D Blu-rays as soon as we have more information.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 was released November 19th, 2010 and stars Bill Nighy, Emma Watson, Richard Griffiths, Harry Melling, Daniel Radcliffe, Julie Walters, Bonnie Wright, Rupert Grint. The film is directed by David Yates.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released July 11th, 2007 and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Melling, Jason Boyd, Richard Macklin, Kathryn Hunter, Miles Jupp, Fiona Shaw, Richard Griffiths. The film is directed by David Yates.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released July 15th, 2009 and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Gambon, Dave Legeno, Elarica Gallacher, Jim Broadbent, Geraldine Somerville, Bonnie Wright, Julie Walters. The film is directed by David Yates.
